Bank Demands Armless Man's Thumbprint
Tampa-Area Bank Says New Rules Will Be Put In Place

TAMPA, Fla. -- A Florida man born without arms said a Tampa-area bank would not let him cash a check because he could not provide a thumbprint.

Steve Valdez didn't have an account at a Bank of America location in downtown Tampa, where he tried to cash a check from his wife last week. However, Valdez has prosthetic arms and is unable to provide a thumbprint. He said he presented two forms of identification but was still denied.

He said a bank manager told him that he could either come back to the bank with his wife or open an account himself.

Bank of America spokeswoman Nicole Nastacie said the bank has apologized to Valdez. Nastacie said the bank should have "offered alternative requirements if an individual is not able to give a thumbprint."

1. Alternative requirements like not asking for thumbprints in the first place, jerks.
I can understand some low level employee making this error but the manager? That's just absurd.

4. Yep, this is typical of their idiocy.
Doesn't matter if the truth is as blatantly obvious as a man with no thumbs being unable to provide a thumbprint, they will still deny it, and stick to their script.

3. They took over my bank and ruined a great relationship....
Suddenly my business account was getting hit with fees and fines that I had never seen before. They even charged me for closing the account. They are definitely the worst bank I have ever dealt with.

5. This is nothing new. Usually a print of the big toe is perfectly sufficient.
but then again, dealing with these morons at the bank, they probably said the toe is not good enough.

Yeah, because toe prints change weekly. :banghead:

7. Excuse me, may I give you a squishy? LOL
side note, way back when I worked out in L.A. when I found out that Alex Trubeck was a right winger, I put my moon prints on the hood of his car. LOL

I just so happened to be working at the lot where jeopardy was shot.

8. the nicest thing I can say about B of A is that I love the service I get...
...from the credit union I joined five years ago after B of A's suckitude drove me nuts.

B of A customers should vote with their feet, IMO.

9. B of A took over "Working Assets" credit card, and changed the Fixed rate
of 4.9% to an adjustable rate they could raise. So I closed the account.
