i used to live on the vineyard. in fact, i used to live on the very same property that obama just stayed at.
i just arrived on the island (obama has left already) but the excited remnants of his trip still abound - signs, t-shirts, articles in the gazette.
the vineyard voted dem by a very wide margin. iirc, dukes county (which is the island of martha's vineyard essentially) went 5:1 obama.
i am not an "islander", since i wasn't born here.
but i am very much in love with this place, and i'm happy that obama , like clinton, chose to come here for vacation.
the island is a wonderful refuge - for artists, for college kids in the summer, for iconoclasts, for african americans (historically a very popular place to summer, and very welcoming back when many other places were openly discriminatory), for surfers (god, i love the surf here).
i'm proud of the vineyard for the respect and love the people here showed obama, and i hope he continues to make the vineyard his vacation of preference.
