Wow, that’s pretty low, right? But now take a look at the question wording:

*****Suppose that Democrats agreed on a health care reform bill that is opposed by all Republicans in Congress. Should the Democrats pass that bill or should they change the bill to win support from a reasonable number of Republicans?

24% They should pass the bill
58% They should change the bill
19% Not sure

Fifty eight percent say Dems should craft health care in order to get support from a “reasonable” number of Republicans. Yet the poll also includes the amusing caveat that the pollster did not

1. Rasmussen. What a shock.
More people favor a public option, and if the version includes that, it'll count as a win.

7. Well, the Dems wouldn't have to do it along if the Repugs would
just consider the people every once in awhile.

11. If a majority want HCR
Edited on Sat Aug-29-09 10:34 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
particularly one with a public option and that is not acceptable to Republicans and none of them will vote for it, then do they not just want ANYTHING AT ALL? Do they want Democrats to take out important elements of the bill (i.e. Public Option) just to pick some Republican support (which it won't because they won't even support Conrad's nutty co-op idea) and be able to say that the bill is "bipartisan"? :eyes:
If Democrats are the only ones whom are going to give the public what most of us say we want, then why SHOULDN'T they do it themselves? Anyway, the Republicans have ADMITTED publicly that they are merely stalling for time to kill HCR and/or purposely watering down the legislation- via endless "negotiations"- which none of them AFAIK are going to vote for anyway in the end. :eyes:
I say just figure out how to whip our "Blue Dogs" into shape and get something good passed and not worry about whether Republicans vote for it or not. Democrats have gotten lots of monumental legislation passed over the years that has tremendously benefited the country (i.e. Social Security, Medicare) but that the Republicans vociferously refused to support/endorse/vote for. HCR is almost certainly going to have to be another one IMHO and the Republicans are ultimately going to pay for electorally- as they rightfully should.
