"Quit Playing Games With Our Soldiers"
CODEPINK, Veterans for Peace- DC Metro Area, and Iraq Veterans Against War to deliver toy soldiers to Senators

WHAT: CODEPINK, Veterans for Peace DC Metro Area, and Iraq Veterans Against War will deliver toy soldiers and a new public service announcement "Our Soldiers are not Toys" to Senate leadership. "Senators from both parties are neglecting their responsibility to bring our troops home quickly and safely", said Gael Murphy, co-founder of CODEPINK. Despite a majority of Americans demanding an end the Iraq War, the Senate has failed to enact legislation to bring our troops home by the holidays. "Members of Congress are playing political football with our soldiers and Iraqi lives," explains Medea Benjamin, co-Founder of CODEPINK, "they would rather have a sound bite on Meet the Press than do the hard work of finding the votes to pass responsible legislation." With the threat of a Bush veto for the supplemental funding for the Iraq War, many Senators including Sens. Levin and Obama, have committed to continuing to funding the US occupation in the wake of the veto. War advocate Sen. McCain's fabricated a stroll through a Baghdad market to demonstrate the success of the surge. The visit could not be done without heavy military accompaniment. McCain's "safe" stroll included 100 soldiers and several helicopters and gun ships. The day after his stroll, more than twenty Iraqi's from that market were killed by insurgents. CODEPINK, Veterans for Peace DC Metro Area, and Iraq Veterans Against War demand that the games be put aside and real progress be made to ensure that all of our soldiers are brought home from Iraq in 2007.
