I blame us in a way - we did not ask the right questions.
I do not know a reasonable cost for an F-22, or a Stryker or those things that cost a gazallion dollars- means nothing to me.

But I know how much breakfast, lunch and dinner costs. We all know.

Ask questions we relate to, you intrepid reporters - how do you do that sarcasm thing??

Ask who got this money - and what they did for it. Ask any GI - they know. I do too. Why don't you??

Joe

2. To the post -
Ask questions that are meaningful - to all of us.

To the failure of the press -

Maybe you should explain -

I thought I was clear - and I am not sure how I was not clear.

3. ok, I"ll try again...what "money" are you referring to, exactly?
do you mean the missing 9 billion in Iraq? Mishandled VA funds?
I understand the press has failed, but I do not understand what specific event elicited this determination on your part.

5. Because I came to know the numbers -
And when I did - It made me so mad I could spit nails. I know the army - really well.

It made me mad we could do this, as a society - it made me madder (is that a word) that no one ever bothered to pick up and report on them. Issues we relate to as a society.

You probably know my posts - I am "Joe for Clark" - my parents, family- very military - my kid is in the fight and all that. I am an accountant. I guess I pick up weird little things.

And frankly - I think I have a sense for our country. Just my birth place in life.

So if I say - Lerkfish - that we get charged $ 30 bucks a tray - breakfast, lunch and dinner - payable to KBR - what does that mean??

Without doing too much homework for people I still have some hope for - means kids we pay poverty wages to, we pay times 1.7 wages paid to KBR- means that - for what??. A 22K per year soldier - we pay 36K per PLUS to KBR for raw food. You know - KBR has a 5 billion dollar a year (plus) interest in keeping those kids where they are. Guess who the VP worked for??

I can go a lot deeper - I won't. They kept their word to us about the last "manuever" so I will keep mine.

But I would ask - who approved that 30 bucks a tray order?? And it is actually worse than that, in fact.

Ever muster out - know what those bastards put you thru - just to leave??

And these people went alont with this??

Something is certainly wrong here!!!

Joe

9. $30? somewhere I heard $64
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 08:48 PM by DemReadingDU
Sorry, no link.

$64 per meal x 3 meals per day = $192 for 1 soldier to eat per day

30,000 soldiers (appx escalation of troops) x $192 = $5,760,000 per day

This is over $5 million per day to feed the escalation of troops, highway robbery!

edit to add this link
snip...
The value of the contract, to feed and house U.S. troops in Iraq, is valued at up to $13 billion.

Documents obtained by CBS News show an auditor repeatedly flagged improper fees for soldiers' laundry. At one site, taxpayers reportedly paid $100 for each 15-pound load of wash - $1 million a month in overcharges.

13. I just asked -
30 bucks a tray X 3 meals a day X 150,000.

5.4 billion a year to KBR - not counting holidays - or xtra trays.

Really more than that.

8. From the day we started the attack.
Look - I think the thing was immoral. You only kill in self defense.

BUT -

It is also true -

It was inept and unnecessary - and conducted in a way that insured failure.

In every way -it was wrong.

10. Are you referencing the money paid to ALL contactors in Iraq?
I'm not exactly clear about what you're referencing, but I get the feeling it is the money paid to the contractors, if not, please ignore this.

11. I would rather someone pick this up without my prodding.
What I was talking about was per meal, per tray to KBR only.

NOT COUNTING HOLIDAYS. That is more.
