Bank staff asks Wolfowitz to resign
WASHINGTON -
World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz acknowledged Thursday that he erred in helping a close female friend get transferred to a high-paying job, and said he was sorry.

His apology didn't ease concerns among the bank's staff association, which wants him to resign.

The growing controversy has overshadowed major development meetings this weekend and is raising fresh questions about whether Wolfowitz will stay on the job. The White House, however, expressed confidence in the embattled bank president.

At issue are the generous compensation and pay raises of a bank employee, Shaha Riza, who has dated Wolfowitz. She was given an assignment at the State Department in September 2005, shortly after he became bank president.

4. The World Bank seems to function better than our own government
...at least where the standards of conduct and ethics of its president are concerned. This was a flagrant abuse of Wolfowitz's position. Hope he's cut loose quick.

8. His position on Congo is more of a concern than his little tryste.
This guy went into the World Bank like the Grim Reaper. His answer to corruption in pathetically poor countries was to withhold funds. A knee jerk reaction at best but very fitting. Instead of trying to find a way to solve the corruption problems, he just shut the country off. This is so typical of the neo con approach to everything! So, to be consistent with his own philosophy, his funding should be cut off.

23. Got her a cushy job at the State Dept.
At issue are the generous compensation and pay raises of a bank employee, Shaha Riza, who has dated Wolfowitz. She was given an assignment at the State Department in September 2005, shortly after he became bank president.

The Government Accountability Project, a watchdog group, estimated Riza's salary at $193,590 as a result of the job transfer and pay raises. The group says she was paid by the World Bank and remains on the bank's payroll. The World Bank would not comment on Riza's compensation, citing confidentiality concerns.

14. Wow where have we heard this before:

The White House voiced its support for Wolfowitz.

"Of course President Wolfowitz has our full confidence," said White House spokesman Tony Fratto. "His leadership is helping the bank accomplish its mission of raising living standards for poor people throughout the world. In dealing with this issue, he has taken full responsibility and is working with the executive board to resolve it."

New day......same old shit. It's ground hog day again at the Whitehouse.

19. Most Americans don't know who "Wolfowitz" IS and even "Licking his Comb"
that went through his greasy hair wouldn't clue anyone in...UNLESS they watched "Farenheit 9/11" by Michael Moore...that portrayed him licking his comb, preening and in TOTAL COMMAND of the INVASION!

He has a Middle Eastern Girl Friend (while having a wife and kids somewhere) but he managed to get her promoted with a big RAISE!

Ohhhhh...that we were all "Friends of Wolfowitz." FOW....Reign FOREVER! WORLD BANK...It's the ULTIMATE! I would be GOLDEN FOR LIFE...if I was "DIRTY COMB WOLFOWITZ'S LADY!"

21. Guys like Wolfowitz really don't see anything wrong...
with anything they do. Not the unethical, not the immoral, not the illegal. These are not transgressions to them - they're perks.

And you know who I mean when I say "Guys like Wolfowitz."

27. They don't understand why other bankers don't want them around.
You're right, they will never police themselves, they don't even understand why they should.

I've never felt like this before about the World Bank.

Just how bad do you have to stink to get thrown off of their team?
