My experience with Canada's health care today.
I told my doctor last week that I wanted a complete physical. Let's start with some blood work. He gives me an address of a medical clinic. I have been healthy all my life, and never gone through any of this. I phoned yesterday for the clinics hours. They open 7AM. I get there this morning 5 minutes early and there are around 15 people waiting for the doors to open. I go in,there is a pick a number thingy, mine is "89",not good I figured. A lady calls out "75". I get called ten minutes later. I go to a room,a nurse comes in and takes 2 vials of blood (I also have to give a stool sample within the next 12 days). We will send the results to your doctor,he will contact you. I am out at 7:20. Total cost so far $0.

2. Now, Swede. You know we're not going to believe you.
It's common knowledge Canada has no medical clinics.

4. There were 6 examination rooms.

But it moved along nicely. Also I heard the nurse tell 2 of the folks there that their tests would take 2 hours. All they needed from me was blood and well poop (which I'm working on as we speak).

8. Was that a visit to the lab
or a medical clinic? I'm not sure I'm following the whole story. Were you able to obtain a full medical at a walk in clinic in less than 20 minutes or was this just to get the blood drawn for a later visit with your Dr.?

I don't know what happens next, except that they send the results to my doctor. He will call me in,when the results get to him. I've never had anything like this done before. I guess the doc will do the rest of the exam then.

Yes I have my own doctor,he knows me by name. (add on edit)

10. I get a physical each year. And what you are saying is exactly
what I wondered when I finally got around to going to get my first physical in many years. I was surprised how quick it went. First of all, when he gets the blood results, you will be surprised on how much information they now get from blood tests. Every thing from cholesterol to you name it. He will probably go over the results with you, listen to your heart, and a few other quick and minor procedures, and you will be out of there. I had envisioned a big ordeal for a physical, and was with the doctor less than 30 minutes. Of course if they find anything, and hopefully they won't, that might lead to further tests. They also did an EKG on me and I figured - great - I will be here all afternoon. The EKG was done right in his office and took roughly 5 minutes. Hope you come out with great results - and you will feel great about it.
