Hundreds of people are gathered on the road for Teddy's motorcade.
Lots of them have American flags.

Normally I hate the hype surrounding the death of a prominent person. But today I feel like I lost a family member.

2. I don't understand the applause.
They should simply put their hand on their heart as the hearse goes by.

12. May I ask people who know that area, how far is it to the library
and is the road mostly freeway?

I can't believe I'm watching another Kennedy funeral procession.

13. It sounds like they're going Cape Code to Boston
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 01:59 PM by lukasahero
(damn I wish I could be out there!) which would be about an hour (depending on traffic) and mostly freeway. Once they get in to Boston, I understand they're not going directly to the Library but driving by some favorite spots - that will not be freeway and should allow a lot more people access to view the motorcade.

Bye, Teddy.

ETA: there are different 'levels' of freeway around here - from the video it doesn't look like they're taking major highways - not sure what road they're on out of the Cape - is it rt3 down there?

31. There were people waving flags at almost every overpass . . . . . .
over Rte. 93N, at the Cape rotary and at most of the rest areas this afternoon. Many were holding homemade signs that said, "Thank You, Teddy," all the way from Hyannis to Boston.

Of course, the tv does stop the coverage for commercials.
Musn't miss the money, no matter what the occasion.

And some MSNBC
( edit: sorry...it is CNN announcer)
said, in reference to talking heads he was going to bring in
" I know they are just dying to talk about .........."

uhhh...classy.

25. He certainly did more for this country than the last President.
My family is currently at the JFK Library waiting to pay their respects. They agreed his importance far outweighs the entire Bush family. At least in terms of positive influence.

Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 03:22 PM by tpsbmam
Mom & Dad were on that train -- they both said it was one of the most amazing, moving experiences they ever had. A fitting send-off for Ted.

Edited to add it's more like thousands of people.

29. I would not go so far as to say family member...
but that is me.

My observation though is that there were more people lining the road for Teddy than there were for Reagan.

Granted, part of it may be the route... but I suspect Teddy was beloved in the city of Boston in ways we have not seen since oh... perhaps FDR. That is what this reminded me off... the old black and whites.

You know who I feel sorry for? Well the grand kids, imagine being twelve in the middle of this. And yes, the Military Honor Guards... been there, done that... and it truly can suck. It is an honor, but it is a duty that can suck.
