Ted Kennedy memorial plans thread. [UPDATED]
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 12:42 PM by Barack_America
The first funeral plans are emerging.

Kennedy to lie in repose at JFK Museum before funeral in Boston

By Globe Staff

Senator Edward M. Kennedy will lie in repose at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum before his funeral at a historic Boston church where he prayed daily while his daughter successfully battled her own cancer. Kennedy will then be buried at Arlington National Cemetery next to his brothers.

Kennedy's funeral is being planned for the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica in the Mission Hill section of Boston. Commonly known as the Mission Church, the cavernous basilica on Tremont Street was built in the 1870s. Kennedy prayed there while his daughter, Kara, overcame cancer.

An official at Arlington National Cemetery said that plans are underway to lay Kennedy to rest next to his brothers at the military burial ground where some of the nation's most revered leaders are buried. The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said the Military District of Washington will be in charge of making all the arrangements at the national shrine, located just across the Potomac River on a bluff overlooking the capital city.

All times and dates are still being determined by the Kennedy family.Tribute areas to honor the senator have been set up at the JFK Library in Boston, the JFK Museum in Hyannis, and at his office in Washington D.C. in the Russell Senate Building.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to educational programming at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. A website has been set up in memory of Kennedy where people can post their memories.

6. Here is my message that TayTay
R.I.P. Senator Kennedy. I was born in Boston in 1969 and you were my senator, I say this with pride often. I guess your wonderful New England liberalism rubbed off on me, as I now live in Chicago and I fight for your causes. I never met him, but always admired his strength and courage. He was the Kennedy of my generation and he will be sorely missed. My condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all his friends. You fought the good fight my friend. May the seas be calm and your compass true on your safe voyage home.
