6. It was the last truly pro-labor bill to get by Congress before the Republicans came to power in 1994

FMLA came into effect August 5, 1993. The only hitch was too many conservative Democrats opposed the inclusion of paid maternity leave into the bill. That was stripped out in order to get their votes.
