Willie Geist Just Said If Chappaquiddick Happened Today - Kennedy......
would have been drummed out of his job. Yeah - right - just like Ensign, Vitter, Craig, Sanford were.

It just pisses me off that they have to get those digs in - don't they.

I'm back on CNN now - can't stand to watch the Scar. I was watching because Barnacle was such good friends with Teddy - he has some good insight and good stories. But Scar and Geist - just turn my stomach.

1. I turned it off, I broke my pledge not to watch because of Teddy
and wound up kicking myself.

4. I am not watching any TV today.
No big loss for me, because I seldom watch TV, but I couldn't stand hearing any shill badmouthing Ted Kennedy.

I will have a private wake.

3. Did anyone die in the other scandals?
Kennedy got lucky with Chappaquiddick. Granted, he went on to do lots of great things but if he hadn't been a Kennedy do you think he would be where he is today all other things being equal?

6. Comparison is weak
Ensign cheated on his wife
Vitter dressed up in diapers; cheated on wife
Larry Craig tried to get a blowjob in a bathroom
Sanford lied to voters; cheated on wife

Kennedy drunkenly drove into a lake and left a young woman to die.

He certainly made up for his sins by helping millions of other people - but to say his crime was comparable to the aforementioned people is silly.

16. Please elaborate..
I am very interested in hearing how the two accidents are comparable...other than someone dying.

Please tell me how a 17 year old girl running a stop sign and a 46 year old Senator driving off a bridge and leaving the scene are remotely comparable.

Again...I stress...Senator Kennedy more than made Karmic amends with 40 more years of dedicated service. But he fucked up in 1969 and cost a young person her life.

12. I figure MSNBC will be unwatchable until afternoon
when we can count on David Shuster and Tamron Hall to be decent.

Tweety will then get on his show and be so Irish Catholic weepy that he's guaranteed to do a tribute with everything in it but the reincarnation of Bing Crosby singing "Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral."

Then Keith will come on and do a dignified tribute with lots of good guests talking about everything Ted accomplished. Don't tune in late, or you will miss his magnificent self-penned introduction. In fact, I imagine he will write a lot of this show himself.

Then it's time for Rachel's show. If she's feeling halfway better at all, she'll drag herself into the studio for Ted's sake. If she can't make it, Alison Stewart and her hubby will have to do their best, but they should give it a good go.

As for Fixed Noise, don't even go there. I believe that for the day they have changed their name to the Chappaquiddick Channel.

13. Yes it would have been different today because of the hateful
talk radio and FOX news. Even back then there were all kind of attacks on him. But today it would be magnified a thousand times. He would have been eviscerated on Hannity, Limpballs, and O'Reilly.

And to answer another point made here, about whether or not if he was a Kennedy would he have gotten so far in life. What happened on Martha"s Vineyard was terrible, irresponsible and reprehensible. A possibly drunk person driving a car which resulted in another person's death. Compounding this, leaving the scene and not reporting it until the next day. Unfortunately drunk driving accidents happen everyday. Many of us are unaware of them unless we are personally touched, or it happens in our local area. Because he was a Kennedy, this was national news and impacted his entire personal and public life. What he did with the rest of his life, speaks volumes to his character and heart.

and they were showing Claire McCaskill getting yelled at a townhall.

Heartless assholes...

And Willie Geist? I sincerely think that man is not all there.

15. The Irony is.... (Hypocrisy)
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 10:31 AM by Kansas Wyatt
If, and I'm not saying he was, guilty of anything... Over the years, he has paid one Hell of a price for it, just in the public arena.

If today's Republican would guilty of such a thing today... All that Republican would have to do is say that the Devil had a hold over them and they were getting spiritual guidance from their pastor to overcome their demons, and they would forgive them and move on immediately.
