6. It shows the innate power of consumers.
Imagine tomorrow if we all got outraged at the hormones in milk? Or anything else that isn't good for us?

Without consumers, the producers (rich guys) are not going to do well.

22. It's Great
Now the next name on the list is Glen Beck, he'll be the easiest one to nail!!!!

Limpballs and Wiener Savage, will be the hardest to take down, but if enough sponsors pull their advertising money they can be toast as well.

let down his 'guard'? He finally 'got real' w/ his audience. Good riddance to less than worthless nazi-wannabe garbage. Maybe he could dedicate his soon-to-be-dwindling millions performing medical experiments on less-than white people in his old age.

... more liberal than most radio talk-show thugs.

But letting down his guard was a total lapse of professionalism. He absolutely should have know better.

Anyway, I agree - fukkim, good riddance.

He's been 'letting down his guard' for to many years on the national airwaves.

He's like the typical wife beater.

Bang! I'm sorry. Bang! I'm sorry. Bang! I'm sorry. Bang! I'm sorry. Bang! I'm sorry.
Bang! I'm sorry. Bang! I'm sorry. Bang! I'm sorry. Bang! I'm sorry. Bang! I'm sorry.

82. Maybe because I don't seem him as a uni-dimensional figure
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 06:36 AM by hlthe2b
I'm not trying to shower platitudes, but in Imus' case, I don't see him as ALL BAD, 100% evil or even 100% racist. I think his words in the name of "humor" over the years have earned him his fate and I do not discount in any way the hurt caused from his words. I was not ever a "fan" and probably heard/saw portions of his program only a half dozen times over the years, given I do not have cable and do not live in NYC where he is broadcast.

While his wounds are self-inflicted, I am sad when I see the downfall of someone that held such potential. Unlike the RW hatemongers who do NOTHING for others, Imus did apparently have some redeemable aspects to his character, most notably his charity work for severely ill and underprivileged at-risk youth. Maybe it is as simple as knowing that I have made mistakes (nothing like this, thank God, and I hope that I would never be misconstrued as racist or homophobic or otherwise bigoted), but in other areas of my life, I've clearly made some mistakes, as have my friends and others in my circle. I would just like to think that there would be ways to make amends BEFORE it came to something like this. Yes, Imus is a millionaire and doesn't deservet he kind of sympathy we should afford to so many others. But, for me, it is still sad to see him self destruct at this phase in his life when time is short for him to resolve this and to have it become less than the defining aspect of his life.

So, while his comeuppance may be very much earned, it is impossible for me to leave it at that. It is certainly NOT the way I would feel if similar "karma" had come to Rush Limbaugh, for instance or Ann Coulter, or Bill O'Rielly or so many others who are clearly out ONLY for themselves.

Just how I feel...

86. And you know this because of his speech alone?
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 07:12 AM by hlthe2b
I really don't wish to defend him. However, how do any of us know what he REALLY feels in his soul?

If he does hate black people and women in general (as one might assume IF one takes his words as 100% representative of his feelings), then why would black children play so prominently in his ranch charity efforts? I am absolutlely just asking.

I do wonder myself what is truly in his soul and I don't know that I will ever really know...

I DO know that I don't wish to turn into what we are fighting--If, by some chance Imus were to find the shame too much to bear and were to take his life, would some celebrate? If not overtly celebrating, would they give it a second thought? Would the enormity of the "waste" of human life influence those thoughts? I know I don't ever wish to move in a direction such that I discount another human life so totally, no matter the mistakes that person may have made in their life. That was the original subthread possibility posed, that stimulated my responses....

87. Yes, I do. I heard the bit at least 10 times today,
and there can be no mistake; Imus denigrated and insulted the team because they're mostly black, and all women, and he's a washed-up old rich white fuck who thought his gig would never end.
He used FCC airwaves previously supported by multi-billion dollar corporate advertisers and the Federal Government to suggest that he speaks for America when he says that black college girls are just nappy-headed whores.
Most of America probably believes that. Oh well. At least that hateful cocksucker is now unemployed.

But, you and I may be the only two feeling even a twinge of sadness over what Imus has brought upon himself in this case. I don't wish to defend him, but I don't feel celebratory at all... From the posts on the rest of this thread and others, it seems I'm at risk of being construed as a "freeper" for feeling this way...

Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 04:10 PM by originalpckelly
There are non-bigoted republicans out there, and thought to be able to host those shows. If we are going to do something about these bigots, we have to make sure to do the right thing, and not go after someone for their legitimate political beliefs, despite how much we may disagree with them.

I don't want to live in a bigoted country, but I also don't want to live in a one party state, and targeting RWers just for being RWers is a step in that horrible direction.

There is no such thing as a non-bigot non-racist Repuke. Thankfully, all of America can see them nakedly exposed, by their own words.

33. Ah well, I'm sure he received a big bonus.
There may be other stations that will offer him a job.

His wounds were self inflicted to be sure and undoubtedly deserved... But, it feels a bit like relishing someone's self-destruction. I don't defend Imus at all. But, it just seems so tragic that it had to come to this...

52. Is that the best you have?
Attacking people over their post count and their profile?

Truly pathetic.

38. How?
Whether I agree or disagree with this thing has nothing to do with it, I just want to know how it's wrong?

Do you mean legally? I don't see how.

Do you mean constitutionally? eh, nope.

Do you mean morally? Businesses don't make decisions based on morals so I don't see how that would be relevant.

Maybe you mean bad business decision by CBS and MSNBC? only time will tell on that one. But businesses hire and fire people all the time based on their actions, though, and some turn out to be the wrong decision and some turn out to be right.

young women on the public airwaves. Period.

83. Yeah, it's totally wrong when there's a groundswell
against racist/right-wing Hate Radio by ordinary Americans. Imus hates black people and women, and especially black women. He's made it abundantly clear, and his corporate masters can't take the heat, and tossed him to the curb on his ass.
Fuck Imus!:bounce:

59. I seriously doubt it
Who would want to associate with him? He was abysmal in the ratings so he would bring no listeners. With XM and Sirius merging Mr. Stern probably wouldn't allow it. He's a pariah now.

85. Hopefully he'll have to use his own money to buy a signal
to spew his racist hate.
Any company/corporation that sponsors his nazi-ass will get nothing but relentless vitriol from our family!

on wikipedia.

Imus Executive Producer:
Carroll is “The Kind of Woman Who Would Wear One of Those Suicide Vests, Sneak Into the Green Zone”

There was a shocking segment earlier today on the popular radio/television show “Imus In The Morning.”

Watch this exchange between Executive Producer
(and “quick-witted on-air contributor”) Bernard McGuirk and Don Imus’ sidekick Charles McCord.

Those two need to go too, if they haven't already.

44. Right Decision
I think it was the right decision. What Don Imus did was very wrong. In addition, this was not the first time he has done this. This is at least the third time he has done someting like this. Furthermore, he has not really taken responsibility for what he has said. He has said he is sorry, but he has blamed just about anyone and everyone else and said it was just a comedy routine. I think he really should have just stood up and been a man, said he said something wrong and not point fingers at other people and what they said. I lost any support I had for Imus once he started blaming everyone else. At that point I felt either he did not get it or did not want to get it.
