A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL
While John McCain, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney boast about the success of the "surge," April is turning out to be the deadliest month of the armed conflict in Iraq.
Will Bunch of the Philadelphia Daily News writes: "We're more than a third of the way through April now, and I haven't seen this actually reported in the media anywhere, but unfortunately this has been the deadliest month for the U.S.-led coalition forces -- on an average daily basis -- of the four-year occupation of Iraq."
Meanwhile, a suicide bomber today (April 12) penetrated the Green Zone and attacked the Iraqi Parliament. In the "through the Looking Glass world" of Bushevism, Secretary of State Rice claimed that the inside the Green Zone attack proved that the surge was just in its early stages. On top of that, the military is so near the breaking point that the Secretary of Defense announced that GIs will be forced to extend their stays in Iraq.
No one knows why we are still in a war that no one can explain a purpose for anymore, except that Bush and Cheney can’t live with a "loss" on their record.
In short, we are having Americans and Iraqis die so that we can avoid being "humiliated." There is no longer any illusion of democracy being achieved in Iraq. There is no mission (other than maybe holding onto the oil fields). We are leaving soldiers and reservists as hostages in a battle for our "national reputation" and to keep Bush and Cheney from having to acknowledge and be blamed for this fiasco that has lasted longer than WW II.
