Major Document Dump Expected By the End of the Week
From a press conference with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) earlier this afternoon:

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE) expecting more documents.

SCHUMER: Today.

QUESTION: Do you know how many (OFF-MIKE)

SCHUMER: There’s supposed to be about a thousand pages of documents.
It’s supposed to come about 4 or 5 o’clock. We know nothing about what’s in them.

QUESTION: Do you know whether they cover any of your redacted…

SCHUMER: We do not. We do not. We know nothing about what’s in them.
We just know it’s a lot, and it’s coming in the late afternoon.

UPDATE: “A very senior source who has seen the latest batch of documents to be delivered to the Senate says Sen. Chuck Schumer is wrong in estimating that the Department of Justice will dump about 1,000 pages related to the U.S. attorney firings sometime between 4 and 5 p.m. EDT. As the afternoon drags on, it is looking more likely that the dump will slip to either very late Thursday or Friday.” 3:18 pm | Comment (6)

2. Where do document dumps originate?
And who does the dumping, and why are they dumped? Please excuse my ignorance, but I am clueless to this procedure.

3. "Why" is pretty easy

Most people get the news either during the work week (Monday through Friday) because they either read the paper at work or catch the news in the morning before work, or on Sunday with the Weekend Edition that has the color comics and the coupons. A news dump late on Friday afternoon will be too late for most of the country to get it onto the evening news, and by Sunday it is old news that is unlikely to be reported in depth. Thus, late Friday afternoon is the best time to do newsworthy things as secretly as possible.

I expect this dump will be documents turned overy by the White House to Congress.

7. "Dumping" often originates with a request from a Congressional
office, like Conyers'. They may originate with subpoenas, and we will be seeing more of these soon, I suspect. "Dumping" refers to the RW habit of providing crucial, incriminating documents at closing time on Friday so they don't have to answer any uncomfortable questions from media until at least Monday, when hopefully there will be something more interesting to report on, like another terrorist attack.

4. CNN's Wolfe just said they were waiting for a dump in a few hours.
It will be interesting to see what they "do not" include.

Do blogs divide these dumps up and peruse them, in addition to people for the Senate?
