A question for the truckers out there...

How much fuel does it take to fill up your semi's tank? And do you use diesel or gas?

If you haul fuel of any kind, your answer would really help me. :)

1. Tank capacities vary

but 250 to 400 gallons is common.

Diesel is the fuel for almost all trucks.

typical mileage is 6 mpg.

trucks can last to 1 million miles or more.

2. It varies. But I can give you generalities.

Generally most big rigs hold 200-300 gallons of fuel (diesel). I am referring to the BIG 18 wheelers. Straight trucks (there is no separate trailer - i.e. UPS truck or flatbed tow truck) as a rule have less load capacity therefore reduced power requirements and lower fuel consumption. Logically, these trucks usually hold less fuel. I recall them holding 50-100 gallons of fuel. They are almost always diesel, but there are exceptions, especially in older models. These numbers are by necessity vague because there are many many combinations of make/model/option packages that determine the fuel tank size. Not to mention the possibility of an owner upgrade.
