Kit Bond: "White House is taking over the CIA and how we interrogate Usama bin Laden"

Bond blasts terrorist interrogation unit

Sen. Kit Bond (Mo.), the senior Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, ripped the Obama administration Monday over its proposal to create an enforcement team to question suspected terrorists.

...

“What does the White House have against Leon Panetta? This bizarre move is a vote of no confidence in not only the terror-fighters who have kept us safe since 9-11 but their very own CIA director,” Bond said in a statement.

“Chrysler and Citigroup apparently weren’t enough: now the White House is taking over the CIA and how we interrogate Usama bin Laden.”

Bond called the move a dangerous power grab.

Obama Puts New Limits on Questioning Terror Suspects

Aug. 24 (Bloomberg) -- The Obama administration placed new controls on interrogating terrorism detainees to prevent the kinds of abuses that allegedly occurred when the CIA captured and questioned suspected al-Qaeda operatives.

A special unit of interrogators housed at the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be established to question so- called high-value detainees, administration officials in Washington said today. The multiagency group’s deputy will be drawn from the intelligence community, the officials said.

The special unit will stick to existing procedures outlined in the U.S. Army Field Manual, with oversight from the White House National Security Council.

“There is no tension between strengthening our national security and meeting our commitment to the rule of law, and these new policies will accomplish both,” Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement.

4. How DARE the Executive branch exercise its lawful authority over the Central Intelligence Agency!
The use of the phrase "Government Takeover" indicates Bond probably has the Health Care Reform struggle more on his mind than the CIA. Repetitious use of the phrase in another seemingly unrelated context, is meant to reinforce its effect in the prior context.

7. Thinking the same thing...
Doesn't the CIA work for the White House?
Doesn't the CIA director serve "at the pleasure of the President"?

He could fire the entire CIA.

5. Sorry, Kit. I'm not in a bipartisan kind of mood today. Sit down and STFU.
Ummm ... "... the White House is taking over the CIA and how we interrogate Usama bin Laden.”

Who's this "we" you're talking about, Kit? You and the boys in the cloakroom? The U.S. Gov't (what's the FBI, then?)? Blackwater?

Is it me, or are the Repuglicans making less and less sense every day?
