NPR - Iran And The Bomb: U.S. Keeps Options Open
Iran's leaders say the country's nuclear program exists only for the purpose of generating electricity. Western intelligence agencies say the Islamic republic aims to produce nuclear weapons and intimidate its neighbors. How close is Iran to getting the bomb? How might it be stopped? And what are the implications for the United States and the rest of the world if Iran succeeds? This week, NPR looks at Iran and its suspected nuclear weapons programs in a series.

Here we go again. Insurgency operations haven't work and the democracy movement has been curtailed so the Empire is priming the pump for yet another war - egged on by - surprise! - Israel.

1. Like they really NEED a bomb to intimidate their neighbors.
They are the largest in land-size, and second only to Pakistan in population in the region. They have immense wealth through their oil revenues, but their economy is not that of an 'oil state' such as Saudi Arabia.

'The Bomb' is a ginned up threat not supported by any sociopolitical reality in the region. Iran has only fought in a single war in the past half century, and that was a defensive war against Iraqi aggression, egged on by the US. Even IF they were to have a covert bomb program, it would be intended to deter further aggression by extra-regional powers rather then to use coercively against their neighbors.
