McCain has taken an indefensible position on the War in Iraq. He is toast....
It is incomprehensible that McCain, who happens to be running for President in 2008, would embrace this War in Iraq and the totally disasterous actions of the Bush Administration.

I wonder if he will be saying 'the surge has just begun' when the first primaries are held?

And to brush off missile attacks and suicide bombers who are targeting the Green Zone is ignoring reality, which the public understands.

He now seems to have taken 'ownership' of this war and its outcome. The equivalent of political suicide as far as his presidential campaign is concerned.

1. Agree. He's smart enough to know better, but apparently out of
sheer stubbornness, he isn't going to budge on Iraq, and it's already bringing down his poll numbers.

If he's no more flexible than that as a prospective candidate, he'd likely be disastrous as a president.

2. I said this in another thread, but has deluded himself into thinking
he's demonstrating true political courage by going against both reality in Iraq and the will of the American people. He really thinks there may come a point to where Americans will suddenly rally around this war again and say, "You know, that crazy sumbitch McCain was right!"

3. I think you have McCain's thinking pegged exactly right...
He is ignoring reality and thinks that the country will eventually come around to his present way of thinking. WRONG.

4. McCain is an idiot. That last statement where he said he didn't need a bodyguard in Iraq
was moronic. He lost any chance of being a real candidate with that statement. It was the straw that broke the elephants back.

6. He obviously has idiots for campaign strategists or he ignores the advice they give him...
Either way he has really painted himself into a corner here.

THere is no way to win this war in Iraq, and continuing the same 'no plan' but increased troop deployment that Bush is pursuing goes against all the polls and most of the Military Generals on the ground he purports to listen to.

I doubt McCain will make it past Super Tuesday as a candidate. He is already experiencing abandonment of support as confirmed by weak fundraising numbers.

It is unbelieveable that he hitched his wagon to Bush's failed efforts in Iraq. Once again Bush is killing his chances of being the Repub Party nominee.

5. He's done
I don't think anyone the piggies run in 08 has a snowballs chance in hell, but he's making them look even badder if that's possible.
