Why did I watch "The Today Show" this morning?
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 07:17 AM by underpants
I have boycotted it since Couric read the RNC talking points to Sen.Kerry about Abramoff's clients giving money to Democrats.

The teaser of an EXCLUSIVE one-on-one interview with Campbell Brown and Nancy Pelosi hooked me.

After the morning news (more dead in Iraq, Vonnegut dies :-( ) Lauer and NBC News chief Randy Snapon (sp?) talked about Imus and NBC dropping the simulcast. As LIVE footage of Imus was on the air they talked about how they wouldn't carry any more live footage of Imus.

It was also reported about his charity ranch (which is a good thing) and how he was done apologizing in public and then they had on a character reference.....Bo Dietl.

Seriously they had Bo Dietl on I think to support Imus. Bo Dietl-if you haven't ever watched the simulcast or caught Dietl's hilarious interview on a Daily Show segment a few years ago well then you missed what lead up to all this. The NBC News chief actually said that they had been watching Imus for over a year due to complaints (read: Dietl). Lauer confronted the News boss with (I am not making this up) the following : "Some people say that you are simply bowing to sponsor pressure" and then the humdinger "I have people saying to me that you only listened to the loudest voices" <---Lauer MATT LAUER actually said that with a straight face.

The Duke rape story-I got in the shower.

The Pelosi interview.
This will be available soon on C&L or Thinkprogress but here is a recap. Nancy did really well not very confrontational with the complete BS Campbell Brown (is that really a name?) was spewing probably not confrontational enough for some but I thought she swatted away the nonsense talking points as they were read to her.

The noticeable part was Campbell Brown's "buts" :-)

~paraphrased

~"...BUT it is the President who officially LEGALLY conducts foreign relations"

Pelosi pointed out that she, they, didn't conduct foreign policy and in fact conveyed the administration's policy positions.

~"...BUT the President REJECTED the Iraq Study Groups findings"

At one point early on Pelosi actually looked away as she could see how horrible of an interview this was going to be at this point however she said ~"look the President isn't the King this is a democracy"

and so on.

Okay I'm done with the Today Show again.

3. Lauer and NBC news are now using the FoxNews "Some people say" bullshit?
just once, when someone was confronted with "some people say...." they would respond with "some people say you're a huge douchebag, now why don't we talk about the issue without throwing around snarky unsourced innuendo as premise to a question"

6. Want to guess who interrupted an interview to call them on "some people say"???
Michael Moore

He was on during the Farenheit 9/11 press run and Katie Couric try a GOTCHA with

"You know some people say that you can be a real jerk"

Moore :"SOME PEOPLE"??? WHO who said that??"

Couric (looking down at notes away from Moore and the camera)"Well just some people who have"

Moore "WHO ??? WHO SAID THAT? No one that's who you are just making that up to get that point across"

or something like that. I looked on YouTube but don't see it.

17. Good for Mike.
It makes my blood boil when somebody uses that idiotic "some people say..." in a serious interview.

I expect that kind of cheap crap from Fox, it sucks that the other networks use it too.

8. I thought Nancy was good during the interview
She was tough and firm, yet polite, and not at all the way she is portrayed by the right.

9. I watch my local NBC news as I get ready for work and caught the opening for The Today Show
before I turned it off.

I KNEW it was going to be about Imus. Bombs going off in capital cities in several Middle Eastern nations and NBC has to lead off with an old hack DJ who was NEVER funny and should have been off the air YEARS ago??

Oy vey!

10. Another DUer recently labeled that waste of broadcast air, "The Toady Show"
I'm sorry I forgot the poster's name but it's a perfect description.

Their anchors are more suited to the fluff segments and drooling over celebrities than any formal news discussions/presentations.

I'm sure Mr. Brown is quite proud of the Missus this a.m. :eyes:
