1. Well, to be fair, that's also the Democratic Blue Dog plan.
If it were just the Republican minority it wouldn't be a problem.

2. Only the fearful Republicans see it as sending our money to Iraq...
Most of them see it as supporting the corps that make up the military industrial complex.

Patriotic, aren't they?

5. Note that Iraq does have
nationalized health care, so at least some of the money has been well spent. ;-)

7. No! Send it to Colombia--a country with one of the worst human rights records on earth!
$6 BILLION in aid to the Colombian military and its paramilitary death squads and drug lords--and billions MORE to establish seven new US military bases in Colombia!

Please! The narco-thugs running Colombia need our help to, um, keep all of it going--bombing raids on Ecuador (member of OPEC, lots of oil), incursions into Venezuela seeking phantom "guerrillas" (member of OPEC, lots of oil)--while the newly reconstituted US 4th Fleet in the Caribbean, and the seven new US military bases in Colombia, and the salvaged US military base in Honduras, get their act together.

Iraq doesn't need us any more. We've fucked them up good and proper, to last them the rest of the century, before they can throw off our puppet, oil-contract protectorate government. Colombia needs the moolah, the filthy lucre, the booty, the gold of our children's children's tax indebtedness, to pave the way to EASY oil, there for the pickuns, in peaceful, democratic countries who are no match for the honcho US war machine. Just give them a chance. They're chafing at the bit to invade Venezuela and Ecuador--with their oil provinces right there on Colombia's borders--kill all the leftists and give us the oil. It's not like nuking Iran, which had downsides. In this case, we can kill democracy, too, and stop socialist handouts of medical care and college educations. Two birds with one stone, like Rumsfeld dreamt of, but couldn't pull off in that mess over there. Right here in our own "back yard"--all the oil we could ever want. And all we have to do is stop shoveling our BILLIONS and BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars into that shit-hole Iraq, or that loser pipeline in Afghanistan, and send them to the Colombian drug lords and murderers of leftists and union leaders INSTEAD!

Oh, wait! They're already doing this? BILLIONS and BILLIONS to Colombia? Seven new US military bases in Colombia? $43 million US tax dollars to the rightwing coupmasters in Honduras, from John McCain's US taxpayer-funded "International Republican Institute" via USAID-NED, and millions more to rightwing Honduran businessmen and politicians from Hillary Clinton's "Millennium Corporation," and god knows how many millions and billions to support rightwing political groups and psyops in Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Chile (all with democratic leftist governments), through SECRET budgets?

Yup, we're already doing all of this in Latin America, and occupying Iraq, and bombing dozens of civilians weekly in Afghanistan. Well, send Colombia MORE! Quit all this other nonsense and go for the sure thing! Bush gave Colombia's president "the Medal of Freedom." He's a real brick for our side, and if we get tired of his diplomacy with other Latin American leaders, we can easily, easily dump him in favor of the far more single-minded Defense Minister Santos, who never forgets who he is working for, and is 'running' for president. Colombia is EASY. They're already so fucked up by the failed, corrupt, murderous US "war on drugs," their people won't blink at Colombia as a launching pad for Oil War II, and many who might blink have already been tortured and killed, so we can be spared that "stain" on our reputation, and just get the oil next door.

So, here's the deal, American people! We'll forget Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan, go for the easy kills in Venezuela and Ecuador (and, if we get lucky, Brazil), and bring those triillions of your tax dollars home from the Middle East to create a better insurance industry, and they will insure every last living soul in America for health care, provided they put up whatever they have--however little it may be; a home, a car, a tent, a shopping cart, the shoes on their feet, their children or the jewels on their crown in Heaven--as security. And we won't take anything away from anybody until their medical bills have reached $250, er, $150. Do we have deal?

Cuz right now we can't afford to provide medical care in the US. Too many wars. Let's just have one, right here in our own hemisphere. Okay? And Colombia's waiting. They won't give us no guff. They'll jump right to it. And if we stick to this hemisphere, we have only the <[i>Catholic clergy to worry about, and they always support our juntas (and Latin American fascists know how to take care of those who don't). Easy pickuns, I say.

So easy, I wonder why Donald Rumsfeld didn't think of this. Oh, yeah, he DID...but too late.*

*("The Smart Way to Defeat Tyrants Like Chavez," by Donald Rumsfeld, Washington Post, December 1, 2007.) ("Gulf of Tonkin" note: Among other things, Rumsfeld urges "swift action" by the US in support of "friends and allies" in South America--a year after his resignation from the Pentagon. Odd thing for him to have on his mind.)
