a bit. Maybe "eat and choke"? "Eat and bloat"? Or wildly different, like "Ruch is thinking, 'I can't find my toes.'"

Being parallel in phrasing is nice, but a bit of variation helps as well. I love complex lists of three or more phrases with the first two being almost exactly parallel and the last fitting (according to the ear!!) but slanting off from the first two. For instance:

"I had become less than a wisp, then lacked all substance, much less arms to hold, legs to wrap, or teeth with which to bite."
