So... will health care be Obama's first big failure?
It appears to be headed towards a system that basically forces more money out of the
public's pockets and drops it into the pockets of rich private corporations.

Exactly the sort of thing we DON'T need.

Or ... will Obama pull off something surprisingly unexpected and deliver a system
that is effective and beneficial?

If he does, it will demonstrate that he is really the leader of substance that we
all voted for.

If he doesn't, we might have to live under Republican rule again much sooner than
we expected.

1. If the nation elects to go Pub again...it will prove how gullible we are
to suck for the GOP line is to display complete lunacy

2. It might also be his last big mistake
A failure to pass healthcare reform, without a viable public option would effectively neuter Obama and his political vision. It will also piss off the left to the point where they'll leave Obama and the party, and the Dems will go down in 2010 and 2012, making Obama a one term wonder.

3. If he does fail it will provide the Republicans with a blueprint of how to thwart him,
and they will use it time and again. If a line in the sand is not drawn now it will be much harder to do later.

4. If he does fail it will provided a Blueprint for Democrats to see how not to fail again
Quit appeasing Republicans and try appeasing the Democratic base. That might work.

9. Can't do that, sorry...
Might piss off the corporate masters, plus, of course, Republicans will yell.

Nah-uh-uh!

6. This is Clinton '94 all over again!
Let's hope President Obama is as smart as President Clinton in permitting Republicans to overplay their hand, as did Gingrich and his Reaganite "Young Turks", when they "shut down" the federal government, turning the people against them.

7. Throwing gays under the bus might qualify.
But that's just my pet issue.

8. Sounds like somebody didn't get his pony!
:sarcasm:

Another contender for first big failure: putting the likes of Rahm Emmanuel and Larry Summers in charge of everything.

10. Ha! Yeah.
And your "first" is probably right. Or, you could ask why someone would choose those guys. Perhaps the first lies within Obama himself.

11. I dunno, though--the whole gays-under-bus project began back in 2007
with the McClurkin fiasco, which is also when ponies 'n poutrage became the height of sophisticated political discourse at DU (and when being more or less openly homophobic became acceptable).
