Something on the DU Latest page just hijacked my browser.
I clicked on "Latest" and the page came up like normal, but then the browser maximized and popups and Javascript alert windows started appearing all over the place. The HTML code of one of the ads has got some nasty code in it. If it happens again I will isolate the page source code and let you know which ad has the offending code.

5. Wow. I stepped away for a bit and came back to a browser timeout.

But I don't accept cookies and maybe that's the difference. I add sites, like du, to the exceptions list to 'allow for session.' And I set my du preferences to not display Google ads.

6. My browser has been freezing
when I don't use it for a few minutes the past two days. Firefox. It is driving me crazy.

2. Had the same thing happen yesterday.
I had to immediately shut down, run a scan and up my security. Haven't had a problem today.

4. It's been happening to me since yesterday, too...

I'm using Namoroka (Firefox 3.6 pre-release version) on a Mac, and the pop-up blocker displays a warning, but I can't navigate away from the the DU page... then I hear a a bunch of loud overlapping audio. A couple of times a PDF file (named "bc.pdf") was downloaded instantly.

Something funky is going on.

8. Try AdBlock Plus
FF add-on. Click on "Add-ons" in the Tools menu.
Hope that helps.

:)

9. I use Opera, and never had that happen, but...
the star means I don't see all the ads you do.

10. Flashblock
learn it, love it (FFX add-on)

Don't know how I managed to survive without it, really.

These days, all the old javascript tricks don't work anymore, so they use flash to hack you since it is opaque to the user (you can't see the code, unlike JavaScript).

11. Probably old news for DU'ers
...but just in case its not:

A recent Flash vulnerability was detected and a new Flash player/plugin was released. If you haven't updated in the last 2-3 weeks or so, I'd hop over to Adobe and check it out.

Also, No-script FFX addon stops it at its source. Add AdblockerPlus for the most fun you've had browsing since 1998. =)

14. Its that damn Pizza Hut revolving ad...
sometimes the only way to get away from it is to close down the browser and then come back online.
