Ok, Palin is a pathologically narcissist who's thinking is clearly delusional in many regards. However, between her claim the other day on 'death panels' and now this latest claim that Obamacare is 'evil', she is managing to completely set the terms of the debate. That's right, an out of office gubernatorial quitter is driving the national discourse, from Facebook.

One might wonder why Obama and the majority Democrats are playing such defense and getting their asses kicked on the issue. I think it's because Obama et. al. have continuously made a case for technical fixes for health care, acting as if we just need the right policies, the right subsidies, the right amount of competition to tidy up the system, cover more people, and correct some major injustices.

Palin on the other hand is clearly, explicitly (insanely) framing the issue as a moral one. This is clearly the winning angle. Obama, to my knowledge, has never come out as President with the simple message, repeated over and over by his underlings and allies, that the US health care system has failed because it is an utter moral failure, that can be corrected only by policy makers dedicating themselves to the idea that health care is a right for all Americans. This is a position from which a morally coherent policy can be formulated, and then defended using the same argument. I'm sure Obama has made this point at some time, but it's certainly not Talking Point #1. Looking forward, I expect Palin to continue to completely pwn the President.

She is just another nobody from a failed reality show and now her 15 minutes of substantive fame are up. The election season was the Rapture and she was left behind. I am sure she will land somewhere where she will engineer herself an epic fail - but for the moment, no one wants to be in on that last stand with her. Radio is shunning her, the party is shunning her, anyone with an ounce of brain power or real moral fiber won't be seen with her. It isn't very pretty right now in Sarah-land.

Other than a small fringe group of people lacking in the ability to think critically, no one listens to a word she says. Even if someone tried, the word salad style and lack of comprehension of issues is a turn off for anyone who isn't stuck on stupid. The audience she has right now is as good as it will ever get for her, and upon reflection, she might realize one day that when she quit her governorship, she ended any chance of being even slightly influential, not to mention driving a stake in any national political future she may have hoped to create for herself. With the kind of stupidity she has demonstrated since leaving office, she has become rather a laughingstock.

A insignificant number of gullible and agnry foul mouthed protesters haven't done a thing to derail health care reform. It is going to happen, and all we seeing now is the final stages of building whatever consensus is possible. But the gullible racists and those who are spinning the most easily debunked lies about reform have turned themselves into nothing but cartoon characters, without any shred of credibility left.
