One of the most controversial and influential public intellectuals in American life is weighing in with a new theory on the roots of Jewish intelligence.

Charles Murray, famous for “The Bell Curve,” his book on the racial basis of intelligence, has published an article in this month’s Commentary, titled “Jewish Genius.” In the essay, Murray theorizes that the preponderance of very smart Jews throughout the ages can be traced back to evolutionary processes that began even before the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem.

“There is reason to think that selection for intelligence antedates the 1st century C.E.,” writes Murray, a scholar at the conservative-leaning American Enterprise Institute. “From its very outset, apparently going back to the time of Moses, Judaism was intertwined with intellectual complexity.”...

Jews as well as many Asian immigrant groups place a much higher emphasis on analytical discipline, self criticism, and other academically supported building blocks for success in Western culture than Christians or other Goyim, per capita.

Whether it's the required reading-intensive religious requirements needed to be achieved at a young age or the fact that you don't have anyone telling you Jesus is more important than science (especially sciences like psychology) odds are you're going to be better prepared.

btw I used the word "racial" because it was short enough to fit my title. I know "Jews" are not a race in certain senses but they're also not not a race in others, such as the way this AEI bullshit study uses them.

20. Cultural value

If one examines the cultural traditions of Judaism and Buddism, I think you will find that both cultures place a very high regard for the value of education. In the Buddist tradition, the teacher is one of the most hight ly regarded individuals in a community. In the Judaic tradition, the Rabbi (hebrew for teacher) is normally the most revered member of the community.

21. I read Mismeasure of Man a few weeks ago

I can only imagine what the late Stephen Jay Gould would say. The reprint of Mismeasure that I read included a whole intro and essay where Gould completely eviscerated The Bell Curve (and Gould nailed Murray on his ties to AEI).

I'm sure Stephen Gould is somewhere howling right now.
