Lawyer: Edwards won't comment on ex-girlfriend's child

RALIEGH, N.C. — Wade Smith, one of John Edwards' attorneys, said Friday that he and his client will be making no statement today and have no plans to make a statement regarding Rielle Hunter's child.

Media reports quoting anonymous sources circulated Friday saying that Edwards was planning to acknowledge that he is the father of Hunter's baby, Francis Quinn. Edwards has previously said he and Hunter had an affair.

"No statement is planned," Smith said. "We have no sort of schedule or timetable."

Hunter appeared before a federal grand jury last week. Edwards, a former presidential hopeful, is under investigation by a grand jury regarding whether he inappropriately spent campaign money to hush rumors of his affair.

Edwards eventually withdrew from the Democratic nomination for president.

Wouldn't Edwards, if asked a couple of years ago, agree that denying the existance of one's child is horrible and cruel? I would think so.

I was never a huge fan, but it's sad and disturbing to see him act like this.

Everyone has seen the photos. He would only be stating what is already obvious to the rest of us.

He and Hunter had a consensual relationship. That relationship produced a child--like THAT has ever happened in this country.:eyes:
Yet--more air time has been taken with this story than with the wide-stanced republicans in bathrooms or republicans who diddled underage pages IN Congress or republicans that escaped out of the country to fuck their exotic lovers while on the company dollar.

9. He's got bigger worries with potential criminal charges.

As I recall, it seems he used funds raised for one purpose to support his paramour in a fabulous manner. He may have stepped over the line in doing so. Any who might be charged is wise to shut up and let their attorney do all their talking.

He could be charged with federal or state violations for misuse of funds collected for a valid purpose which were redirected for his personal gain, for an illegal purpose. Paying a bribe is against the law in many jurisdictions.

There are any number of venues where a prosecutor could make a case against Edwards if said prosecutor wanted to do so.
