They're so phucking militant about it. My grandfather had guns -- he hunted deer in SW Pennsylvania. He was never an asshole about his "rights," and he'd be appalled at the behavior of many NRA wackos. Same with my stepfather who occasionally carried for work. Two mature adults who didn't feel the need to pitch fits about the gub'mint taking away their guns. It's just too politicized.

they interviewed him just now on MSNBC, and he did not seem like the angry idiots we've been seeing for a few weeks now. No frothing at the mouth, no screaming, no talking points from Fox... concern about money and a bit untrusting.

I think he started out wanting to be upset - the NRA reference seemed almost a defensive opening stance - you know, "go ahead and attack me for this" sort of thing. But he was polite, and he had a good question, which was excellent to have Obama answered.

Some regualr schmo from Nowheresville America stood up and asked a question to the most powerful man on the planet and got an answer. Okay, so it's been a long day and maybe I'm an easy touch. And everybody else has been keeping up with the video more than me, so it probably seems fresher from my where I sit.

But damn, is this a great country or what? Some idiot wears a firearm to a presidential event and the Secred Service doesn't do a damn thing (but watch him like a hawk). Uninformed and misguided people rant and yell and make a disurbance and nobody gets dissappeared.

Obama is exuding a confidence that I find impressive and reassuring. We might just make if after all.

to announce his NRA membership and then go on to ask about health care. He's a proud member.. good for him, no valid reason to announce it in that situation. However, beyond that minor point I did like his question. He didn't softball it, was direct and forward but not disrespectful. It was a valid question that I'm glad was asked.
