Calls their press conference a 'recruiting celebration'. Shreds Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Gets lots of 'way to go' comments from white readers in the comments section.
Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem.
You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality.
You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor.
Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred.His comments brought out the worst in some of his readers, who felt obliged to pile on.
"You're exactly right. The real problem in the black community is the illegitimacy rate, the dropout rate, the disproportionate share of crime blacks commit against society. It all boils down to a lack of accountability in the home. And there can be no accountability when you fracture the foundation of the home with the illegitimacy rate that currently pervades in too many black families. Thanks for telling it like it is."
"Well said, JasonAs a white guy, it seems to me the biggest thing holding back black progress is a state of perpetual victimhood (and those who profit from it) and the thug culture perpetrated by current hip-hop and rap. I know that NBA popularity is declining among white viewers predominantly for this reason. As a KC transplant to NYC, I work with all races, languages, nationalities, etc. In fact, I am treated as a foreigner because I am a midwestern white guy, a freak, a curiousity. (Do I live on a farm? etc.) Kudos on taking a stance that is truly color-blind. If a black radio jock made some kind of hillbilly crack or something similar, would there be this kind of furor?"
" wish that these people would spend half as much time trying to get a job and contribute something instead of relying on todays culture which has been trained to keep their hands out seeking compensation from the rest of us that are too busy working to care about some stupid comments from anyone who has a hint of notoriety.
It realy breaks my heart that 40% of my income does not provide enough welfare to support these dregs on society.
Keep up the good work!"
