Something about Rachel Maddow
Over the last several evenings Rachel Maddow has done an excellent job of exposing the persons, companies, and organizations funding the right-wing zealots. This is good honest-to-god in-depth news reporting and its something that is sorrowfully lacking on television today (and non existent on radio). She is to be congratulated for informing the public to a degree none of her peers seem interested in.

Keep up the good work Rachel, its appreciated.

Too bad other vested interests don't allow the type of objective, fact based reporting K & R are presenting within other M$M outlets.

Is Ed likewise covering this accurately?

91. Yes, absolutely, he is.
Initially, I was very sceptical of Ed. But on this issue he is a true Democrat, and is also doing an excellent idea of exposing the opposition. He is particularly good at exposing the Blue Dogs.

So lets give him credit, too. Maybe not as cool as K & R, but he is doing his part here.

31. But that is the whole beauty of the plan
They have their news and it tells them that Rachael is a vile evil Knievel that lies and spreads hate against them, and that they should not listen to any thing she says. So not only don't they know the truth they do not want to know the truth, and when faced with it, they rationalize and rationalize.
It is really the same dynamics as a cult, and used for the same reason.

62. But, in just putting this information out there
is hugely important. It gets heard and helps paint the picture of how radical the other side really is.

When Clinton tried to reform healthcare in his first term, there really was nobody on "our" side to debunk all the RW lies. Now, there is Maddow, Olbermann, Stewart & Colbert at least... plus, Ed Schultz and (on his good days) Chris Matthews. Granted, it's still one-sided for their side. But, back in the 90s there was nobody.

39. Rachel may be the best reporter on television. Period.
My son and I were just talking about that last night. Obviously she has a great staff, but she has dropped hints that she does a lot of her own research.

I think she's the best in a very strong 3-hour MSNBC lineup.

I wish they'd move Ed up to 7 so I don't have to change the channel when Tweety the asshat comes on and then change it back to Olberman at 8.

93. Same here - Ed deserves to be re-run at a decent time rather than 3 AM ET
Too often I miss part of his show and then forget to record it. And Tweety is already on two hours. What would make sense is Ed at 6, Tweety at 7, Keith at 8, Rachel at 9, repeat, twice. That would fill their night time schedule without the weird shifting they do now.

A few years ago there was not one single journalist who had a daily TV show in the mainstream American media who offered the type of journalism Rachel Maddow presents. This itself reflects a real change.

131. She's fairer than most of them, too. She often begins by asking a guest if she has
correctly stated his/her position, and she never tries to shout anyone down or talk over them. She is unfailingly polite without being a doormat and often runs rings around the people she's interviewing. She's not mean-spirited when she shows up someone's lies, either, which makes her a more likable presence. Some "hosts" enjoy being nasty people.

Proud to be rec #100.

She needs to get Pat Buchanan back on and school him about the corporate funding of all those Astro turfing ignorant racists bulling away at the Town Hall Meetings.

Both she and Ed invite righties with open arms. Keith maybe not so much. I suspect righties don't have the courage to appear with Keith?

But, it sure would be nice to see her interview Dick Cheney! She's asked him on the air plenty of times.

I think Rachel should get on Oprah and The View some time! If she hasn't already.

sadly, when a friend of mine posted a clip of her show on facebook, some jackass said "she is corrupt" but never answered why when I asked him. So, just like always, the people who need to see her show the most won't watch, and won't believe her if they did.

It's sad and fucked up just how successfully the right convinced ignorant people to completely distrust information and the government, yet these same people somehow think they could be more successful without any government.

***The Last Republican Tactic: Outright Lies

A barrage of outright lies, wherein the Democrats are being accused of wanting to launch a massive euthanasia program against the elderly, free abortions for everyone, and "a government takeover" of health-care is now being combined with physical intimidation that in several cases has required police escorts to protect pro health-care reform speakers surrounded by angry plants sent to disrupt public forums on the health-care issue. Demonstrators hung Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD) in effigy outside of his office. Missing from the reporting of these stories -- with the notable exception of Rachel Maddow -- is the fact that much of these protests are coordinated by public relations firms and lobbyists who have a stake in opposing President Obama's reforms.

There is no daylight between the Republican Party, the health-care insurance industry, far right leaders like Dick Armey, the legion of insurance lobbyists, and now, a small army of thugs. All we're missing is actual uniforms, otherwise we now have a full blown American version of the Nazi Brown Shirts.

No, I don't believe that these people are about to take over the country. No, the sky is not falling. But the Republican Party is. It is now profoundly anti-American. ***

Along with DU, these 4 have kept me sane. I hope Rachel reads DU and knows how much we appreciate her.

83. There's are real differences b/t the radical right talk shows and shows like Rachel's.
Rachel uses the tenets of journalism - sourcing and attribution. She doesn't just speak the facts. She back up the facts with her sources, very often even playing the videos ofthe original statements or events.

She shows great research before applying her analysis.

The right, on the other hand, hardly ever tells you where the information comes from, or doesn't tell you the source is known to be false or highly partisan (i.e. The Lewin Group, which is wholly owned by United Healthcare).

...at times she's way too polite. Specifically, she interviewed that prick from Americans for Prosperity (or whatever it's called), Tim Phillips, and allowed the SOB to actually come across as sane. There's something to be said for rudeness when it comes to dealing with 'snake-oil salesmen.

She's a woman.

106. Rachel is a national treasure...
While so many others are merely talking heads spewing what the network wants, Rachel does the ground work, she researches items, gives the facts and does it in a way that geared to all of us thristing for the news items that affect our lives.

First and foremost, she is intelligent, very intelligent, something sorely lacking in many other aspects of journaliitic pursuits. She is honest, she has the knack of making the news intreresting...and she does not back down. She knows she is right, and on the rare occasions when she makes an error, she owns up to it, corrects the error and moves on, Integrity at it's best

Keith Olberman put her in the national TV spotlight, and she has shone on her own since then...she is indeed, a treasure.

119. Rachel was on Bill Maher a few weeks ago
...and the level of discourse went up by a power of ten. It was really noticeable and really refreshing.

Sometimes Maher's show is virtually unwatchable when they have "cretins of the right" TM filling one or more of the panel chairs. Recently, he brought in Arianna to rake over Issa and Kingston. It seems that some journalism is getting better. All it takes is one candle to light up the darkness?

Borrowing from Bela Lagosi's Dracula.

123. I agree...unfortunately Comcast is censoring her show.
I like many of you here, watch Rachel Maddow almost every night for the in-depth, investigative reporting so lacking in the rest of the media. Unfortunately Comcast has been making a concentrated effort to move MSNBC to a higher tier, require an otherwise unnecessary cable box, or otherwise limit its viewership.

I enjoy watching Rachel but, more importantly, more independents or moderate republicans (who might not usually seek such information) should have it available to them.

I wish, somehow that DU could target Comcast on this issue and get them to turn their policy around. They are regularly favoring Fox News and CNN over MSNBC in more and more markets. We need to put a stop to this. This is censorship.

126. On July 1st Comcast censorship struck in central Florida...
they removed MSNBC from the basic tier and required an otherwise unnecessary cable box for viewing. Fox News and CNN remained on the first tier, not requiring a cable box. I am sure others, in other markets, have similar stories.

I encourage others to tell their stories. I'm sure we will see a pattern of expanding censorship over time.

Rachel is a bit award on camera at times...but not in interviews with republicans, she's very smooth, likable, interested and clever.

Sly & clever could describe Ms. Maddow....Maddow is one of the few who knows how to go in for the kill in interviews and doesn't hesitate in doing it.....She one of the few with scruples & principles! Always standing her ground to protect both, even when up against intellectual bullies....Rachel always holds her own, mostly because she's usually well prepared.

Rachel is a naturally polite and sweet person, and it also helps to bring down the guest' defense, their guard....But watch out....before the repugs who thinks they've outsmarted Rachel knows it, they have usually said more then they wanted to and subtly just had their asses handed to them by the wonderful & lovely Rachel Maddow!

And her MSNBC show has exceeded my expectations. She's one of the most thoughtful, thorough, decent, and intelligent journalists out there, and despite the subjectivity of her role she has a good balance of objectivity and remains a stickler for facts. She’s also a great interviewer and relates well to her audience.

The one-two punch of KO and Rachel has been so completely welcome in the sea of bland, insipid, pusillanimous television journalism.
