1. A: There weren't a bunch of fat people in the 60's pictures.
They were still idiots, just not fat idiots.

Of course, there weren't that many fast food joints back then.

17. There are no fat people in the second picture
Proving that fat-o-phobia has become a trendy new kind of bigotry.

If you want to put a stop to bigotry, you have to put a stop to all of it.

23. You know, you're right - none in that picture.
But the loudest assholes in most of the pictures ARE fat - and that's not bigotry. They aren't naturally large people, you can tell the difference. They are fat because they eat junk - just like the shit they call "news". Fast food and FOX Opinion Channel are essentially the same thing - all fat, no sustenance.

I have a very dear friend who has been obese her entire life, but that's mostly genetic (I know her family well). She's a college professor and she isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about morons who are fat because they make bad choices in food, lifestyle, and unfortunately in cable channels.

submit samples of their fat to a central committee.

Healthy food fat? You're free to go.

Junk food fat? Get thee to a concentration camp in Texas, Thunderthighs!

16. Hey I learned phonics and I went to elem school in the 60s
The problem is the opposite. When we stopped phonics, kids stopped learning to spell. Amd many stopped learning to read as easily also.

gave many children a reason not to learn to spell. (spell check) OTOH, my dyslexic son improved his reading and spelling with text messaging and IMing.

34. They dropped out of public schools after integration
Seriously. In the Mississippi town I grew up in, the city council sold the public school property to the newly-formed all-white private school for $1 when integration was forced through. All the (rich enough) white kids went there, and education went downhill from there.

I seriously think a lot of the educational deficit the South has is based on the fact that most towns have a significant white population that has opted out of public education.

36. No, they're not, and I'm not trying to minimize their capability of violence.
Just as in ancient history though, I see them as a dying breed, trying to make an attempt to stay in power.

One day children of all colors will be reading our history books and wonder in awe that these racists prevailed for so long.

45. Not much difference at all. Both were scared, ignorant, and
used by more powerful forces in this country for keeping the status quo. And both groups have the full protection of the first Amendment. We need to make sure that the fringe does not have the only voice in this debate which will be decided by the many in the middle without strong convictions either way. We need to do a better job of explaining what health care reform will do for them. More difficult today with the main scream media though.
