So that's it folks, this stupid woman who has a catastrophic high deductible health insurance policy fears for her "freedom", not bankruptcy due to a serious illness or accident.

that they are forced to bow down to their husband, as opposed to being able to think for herself ...

Edited on Wed Aug-12-09 09:24 AM by Kalyke
I won't say "conservative" woman - because there are those who are conservative for a variety of other reasons.

But, in this case, the author's view of Katy is dead-on. She seems to have been completely molded, whole cloth, by her HUSBAND's point of view. She doesn't seem like she thinks much for herself.

If she did, she'd know that universal health care INSURANCE would be cheaper for her, her husband, me, you, our families, our friends AND our enemies than the high deductible-low-out-payment-co-pay-no-pay-drop-you-like-a-hot-potato-if-you're-sick shit we have now (plus, she'd know that we're speaking of health insurance, not care).

41. She's bought and paid for, and she has monetary interest in her passion
Does she have a job, or did she do well and "retired" early? I would suspect that she "did well" at marriage.

For someone who claimed to not care about politics, she was certainly motivated to score on all the talking points she brought up, and she was looking around the room for approval.

3. OK, I pick universal healthcare.

Because once you (or a family member) is sick and you are caught in the web of the insurance/corporatist providers, your freedom is gone anyway, along with life as you knew it, and maybe even your life, period.

20. For the most part, the answer would be 'no'..
I would wager most of the people who are protesting the __________(you pick, it's actually a melange of grievances now) live and die within a twenty mile circle of where they were born, and have never ventured outside the confines of the borders of this country.

First their parents, then their preacher, teachers, spouse, and boss all tell them what is good for them, their entire lives, and that's good enough.

Don't need no half-black guy with a furrin name from a big city tellin' me nuthin'.

29. Another stupid American who is clueless that the
Universal Health Care she's so afraid of would set her and every American free from worrying about losing everything to a devastating illness. Her employer sponsored corporate health insurance with its ever-increasing premiums and co-pays, denial of services, and ties to her present job provides no freedom and no guarantees. She's one diagnosis away from financial hell and too much of a "moran" to know it.

to listen to that garbage. Can anyone else tell from her body language and quirky expressions how emotionally wrecked and paranoid that chick is? I'll bet if someone asked her to join a protest over high diaper prices, she'd be humping that leg just as hard.

My read = emotionally unstable & stressed woman looking for a cause to unleash her frustrations on, with control-freak husband who gets some satisfaction out of winding her up and letting her go (crazy).

53. Just watched her on Hardball.
Lawrence O'Donnell did the best polite evisceration of someone that I've seen. *paraphrasing here* She whined that she didn't want her family's taxes to go up, and O'Donnell said that the current proposal would raise taxes on those with a family income of over $250,000 and asked if that would affect her family; she squirmed and said she'd rather not say, then blurted out that she didn't know, her husband took care of the money.

O'Donnell asked if her parents were on medicare and she said not yet; he then asked if she would be advising them not to accept medicare since she opposed federally sponsored health care.

O'Donnell talked about the fact she said she'd only recently gotten interested in politics and asked her why - when 9/11 and the war in Iraq didn't get her involved in politics - she would become interested when people recognized that poor people didn't have health insurance and gee, maybe we should help them.

She came across as an ignorant, self-absorbed fool, wrapped up in her Mormon faith and convinced that she actually knew something about history and politics. She's right about one thing - at one point she said "Maybe I'm stupid."

The interview is worth watching here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/vp/32393616#32393616 on msnbc.
