The July 2009 temperature for the contiguous United States was below the long-term average, based on records going back to 1895, according to a preliminary analysis by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C.

The average July temperature of 73.5 degrees F was 0.8 degrees F below the 20th century average. Precipitation across the contiguous United States in July averaged 2.90 inches, which is 0.14 inches above the 1901-2000 average.

2. NOAA should come to TX. Drought and heat, what's not to love?
:eyes:

I know, that's collectively. Just seems cruel to me. x(

8. It's the hottest summer for this part of Texas since 1980.
I made a point of looking it up, after we had that batch of 100 degree plus days in July.

17. And in the midst of our heat wave, my AC started acting up.
Thankfully I got it fixed in 24 hours. Last night was true misery!

I would actually consider getting pregnant just to give them my first born. That is how hot it has been here!

3. They must not have kept any records in the southwest
or Pacific northwest.

July was a real stinker here in NM, a persistent high pressure parked over the Four Corners blocking off our monsoon rains.

It's been nice not having to reset all the electric clocks due to power outages, but I miss the storms.

4. I think it's been responsible for lower violent crime, too.
New York and DC have noted it, I recall, in a recent news article in which someone--probably the lame journalist writing the article--was perplexed by the drop in crime just as all of us are losing our asses. Seems that even when we're desperate, we're pretty reasonable until someone turns the heat up.

Which bodes ill for next year, when a few million people will be living in tents.

10. Here in Illinois the weather's been absolutely lovely
most days the temp was in the 70's or low 80's, low humidity, and rain for a few hours twice a week. Never saw such perfect summer weather.

Have a friend down in San Antonio who told us it was over 100 for a month. Yikes!

12. I'm just happy that it was only 105 today.
Anything below 110 is refreshing.

20. Yeah, I had this cited to me yesterday by a conservative...
...who followed it up with something like, "Take that, Al Gore." :eyes:

Because it was a co-worker, and we were using the company instant messenger, I didn't take the bait. If I'd corrected him, he would have just claimed to have been joking, anyway. I don't think I'll be able to help him distinguish weather from climate.

21. Yeah? So?
It's a statistical blip. It doesn't "disprove" global warming any more than an above-average warm January "proves" it.
