Is Earthlink causing "Buffering" to disrupt Lefty News? Rachel Maddow....
Edited on Tue Aug-11-09 07:12 PM by KoKo
You watch and you decide:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl91YF1d3Kg

Trying to pass this on to my e-mail list of Dems...about the RW Influence of "Tea Baggeres/Disrupters" back to Bush and the 2000 Election I found that my folks I sent this to said it was "UNWATCHABLE.!"

They had "buffering issues" where the feed "stopped and started" and eventually they gave up viewing it!

In our own home since we have Earthlink/India DSL...we had found the "buffering a problem" but figured the folks we passed this incredible catalog of RW Connections provided by Rachel Maddow would go to our friends and relatives who didn't use "Earthlink/Indian Outsourcing" but would be filled with Apple Users and other Internet Resources.

Sadly about half of out "friends and relatives" said the You Tube was UNWATCHABLE...because of "buffering issues..stopping and starting" making it unwatchable since they have making dinner and putting kids to bed the most important issue.

So...Hit the LINK and TELL ME...who is having Buffering Issues from this link. What system gets the whole VIEW without BUFFERING?

I need a new DSL or Computer if any of you watched it without BUFFERING STOPS that TURNED YOU OFF watching the WHOLE THING.

14. One possibility: Earthlink does have regional outages and glitches sometimes.
Maybe your area is experiencing a slowdown. You could call Earthlink and have them check. I've done this several times before to make sure that it's not my computer that needs fixing.

16. No...checked it out...had problems over weekend with another site...
buffering...yet I can get other You Tube video's fine with no problem. Happens with Bill Moyers videos sometimes...but it's gotten worse. Look, I don't want folks to think I'm some kind of conspiracy therorist here. I just wanted to know if others were having problems. Obviously, it's just me and part of my e-mail list.

I'll have to figure out what it is ... Thanks. It's good to know it's not others.

rates all the time.

For people on slower connections, click on the video to start it, then when the bar near the play button begins moving right (signifying downloading the data), pause it. The bar will continue to move right at a regular pace.

Wait a few minutes, or if you have a somewhat slow connection, until the bar extends all the way to the right.

Then you can play it fine, because the entire block of video data will have been downloaded to your machine.

8. It's fine...how many other youtube videos did you compare this with?
99% of these threads saying '(Internet Company) trying to CENSOR mah politics!' are from people who know nothing about computers or networking.

to get a different feed. Buffering problems. It's not the first problem I've had..but figured it was just an outlier until I tried to feed Rachel.

13. That's not a meaningful comparison
All that tells you is that more than one kind of video you're interested in has buffering problems...from which you can conclude only that video is slow for your internet connection at present.

If you want to be scientific about it, you compare it with something neutral like a music video or even something of the opposite persuasion. If you found that everything except lefty political videos loaded fine, then you'd have something. But you won't because ISPs do not want to waste valuable time and money trying to make some videos load slower than other ones.

18. Try benchmarking your download speed
This should help to see if your system upload/download is within the norm: http://www.speedtest.net/

If your system checks out, you may have local video memory processor issues.

21. Don't need to download, you should be able to run the benchmark test from their website.
I didn't get any licensing window....you should see your location, then click another location on the US Map. That allows them to measure the speed of your upload/download connection between 2 known points. After that, just click on the box that compares your results to everyone else who has done the same test.

There are 100's of sites on the web that do this test...Google 'upload/download test sites'

22. I got a Mozilla Add On...gave me only "download file" option.
Edited on Tue Aug-11-09 10:45 PM by KoKo
It was recommended by CNET and Microsoft...it was to "speed up my PC." All things checked out with the CNET/Microsoft Rec's but the licensing agreement said it could interfere with "work in progress" or some such thing ...so I thought I'd take a pass before downloading. It was a free trial. There was nothing on the site for a one time "check to compare" results with others. Anyway, thanks...must have some problem with my computer that I need to check out with running all my security over again. It was a link to "Speed Up My PC"/Mozilla. ???

Thanks.

23. OK.....I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing w/o seeing the links.
Your utility to "speed up my PC" may be internal housekeeping on the CPU...this might actually help with your problem. But my suggestion was testing your actual connection speed for downloading off the internet to see if the problem was with your internet connection.
