Pelosi Pledges Single-Payer Plan Will Get Up Or Down Vote (How Did I Miss This On DU?)
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 01:02 PM by KittyWampus
This is from a week ago but I missed it. Found it after going to Weiner's own webpage today after seeing he is calling for Budget Analysis of Single Payer cost to be ready for debate.

Speaker Pledges to Consider Single-Payer Plan as Alternative
First Time Single-Payer Debated on Floor

“It’s a Better Plan and now it’s on Center Stage,” says Weiner

Washington, DC – Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA), Chairman of the Energy & Commerce Committee announced today that Speaker Nancy Pelosi has pledged to give Single-Payer an up or down vote when healthcare reform is considered before year’s end.

Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY), Co-Chair of the Middle Class Caucus and member of the Energy & Commerce Committee who led the effort with Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI); Rep. Mike Doyle (D-PA); Rep. Elliot Engel (D-NY); Rep. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL); Rep. Janice Schakowsky (D-IL); and Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), released the following statement:

“Single-payer is a better plan and now it is on center stage. Americans have a clear choice. Their Member of Congress will have a simpler, less expensive and smarter bill to choose. I am thrilled that the Speaker is giving us that choice.”

If you want Single Payer to be put to a vote, how about contacting those Reps who are willing to champion it, give them your support and ask them what they want done?
How about contacting Pelosi and asking her to continue committed to allowing this for a vote?
Seems more productive than whining incessantly on DU like a defeated loser about how real change is a non-starter.

3. Must've been busy working. However, considering crap being posted lately, it's as if she never said
this. Or as if Rep. Wiener and a handful of others mentioned in the News Release haven't committed themselves to doing their best.

6. Well, what with all the DUers regretting their votes, it's kind of hard
to get good news here.

7. Real (Pro-Corporate) Healthcare gets a vote in September...
This vote will occur in Nov/Dev. And it might get a mention on the CNN-Politics page. Maybe.

9. Not healthcare - health insurance
even Obama has stopped talking about health care reform and is now talking about health insurance reform. Change CEOs can believe in.

8. Many of us do exactly the activism that you state besides whining about it.
Perhaps that's why Pelosi and some others are changing their minds from 'single payer is off the table' to 'maybe we will look at it'. Of course we can't give up and we have to keep up the pressure on Pelosi and company, however, more people doing this would help immensely.

11. Well, that's kind of the point I tried to make this morning. Defeatists don't help, do they?
How does rolling over, playing dead and then whining on DU help?

That's what I refer to.

10. I truly wish that I could believe that this will happen.
As far as I can see, this is purely symbolic. Even if it were to somehow be passed by the House, it wouldn't stand a chance in the Senate.

12. Fuck, why not?
Besides, it's not like the republicans can freak out any more than they already are.

However, I'm sad to say there's about a snowball's chance in hell this will pass even in the House. Even less in the Senate.

Have you noticed that there is a spate of GOOD NEWS from the Obama admin? Just a few headlines...

It's amazing what gets overlooked in all the reaction to this that and the other thing being reported in the MSM and commented on by those we know to be unreliable sources with agendas of their own.
