There is rebellion in the air...
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 11:44 AM by kentuck
and it's not the manufactured, temporary bullshit of the right-wingers. It is from the progressive side. We want healthcare reform - we don't want insurance reform. We want single payer but would settle for a public option if it is well formulated. We don't want to give more to the insurance companies.

We will not march lockstep for anything that comes out of the Democratic Congress. We voted for reform and change. We will not accept the status quo.

We like this President very much but we will not put our heads on the chopping block for the insurance companies, like we did for the big banks. If they cannot give us what we voted for, don't come up with some blue dog baloney and expect us to support it.

We do not want to be left without health care if we lose our jobs. We do not want limits put on how much insurance we can use in one year. We don't give a big shit about the stockholders who have bought insurance stock with the guarantee it will go up every year. That is all I have to say.

1. Direct me to where this rebellion is happening.
I'm meeting with my rep tomorrow. He's progressive and I don't know what else to say to him other than to pass on a threat to his colleagues about future grassroots involvement.

12. Ditto
and if the Dems continue to disappoint me as mightily as I suspect they will, I may give up on them entirely and switch party affiliation to Independent. Enough is enough.

11. They told me to meet with my rep. I am.
I haven't gotten any notifications about town halls or phonebanking, door knocking, etc.

I got an e-mail from Obama asking me to commit to an event in my area, but when I clicked the link it didn't take me to events that our happening in my area. How can I commit to something if I don't know what it is or when it will happen?

I got another e-mail from OFA asking for money. But for what? The link just takes me to a page where I can give my credit card information, no detail on what they're planning to do with it. Sounds to me like I might be better off holding onto that money to make copies to hand out should I hear of another health care town hall in my area.

6. Most all of us have hot button issues, kentuck.
I've been watching Obama since he was inagurated and I must say I'm not real happy with what he's been doing (or not doing). The health care crap we are going thru is just the latest 'centrist' bullshit.

Warrentless wiretapping, the economy, torture and two continuing occupations are just some of the issues that are really pissing me off.

I'm beginning to think 'centrist' is the code word for 'corporate'.

9. Revolt, where?
Look I may not donate to the DNC, wait, I stopped in 2006

I may not work for any of these corporatists, wait I have not.

but revolt... point to it, because that is a word that does not exist in the american lexicon beyond the legends of Independence.

15. Mr. Tuck, have you heard about...
Mad as hell Doctors. They are a group planning to caravan from Oregon to D.C. September 8. Trying to help them get the word out. Hope this qualifies as part and parcel to promoting said rebellion, which IMHO is long overdue.

There is an urgency in the air, the only thing I know to liken it to is the tension the air was ripe with in the months leading up to the election. I thought for sure my family and I would be camping out in the woods as the feds under Bushco imposed martial law. Now I worry the other shoe is set to drop, just when I thought it was save to believe in democracy again.

Another plea over the weekend here at DU requests that we contact the DHS and the Southern Law Poverty Center and get the republican party I call a herd of orks, listed as a hate group.

And lastly my own motto, which I've taken to calling the "save society" two-step

BE VOCAL, BUY LOCAL

Show these corporate posers we do know how to dance!

Thanx for the riling, I needed that on a Monday morning.
:hi:

16. Hear! Hear! If we do not get reform with the numbers we have, then there
has been no effort by the president or the Congressional leaders. Obama is the one who chose to let the Congress fashion the plan instead of himself committing to one. That was not only foolish, but unacceptable. Obama wants to get credit. He will not get credit from me unless every American is covered and with a good, strong public option. I really want single payer which is the only real reform. Either Obama is too weak to go for it or he is too DLC. I am over 65; I am not fighting for myself. I am fighting for all the rest of you. We need to let the dems know that they will never get another dime from us unless they are one of the Dems who back a strong public option. Those latter dems I will fight for and donate to.
