5. HR676 IS health insurance reform
Read your own link: its sponsors refer to it as health insurance reform:

Health Insurance Reform… we’ve been talking about it for over fifty years now but the situation just keeps getting worse with each passing year. Premiums continue to increase and benefits continue to diminish as corporate profits continue to dominate as the primary objective. Even the new progressive administration in Washington D.C. proposes yet another convoluted hybrid plan that will do little if anything to relieve our health care system of the $660 Billion dollar annual burden of obscene corporate profits, grotesque CEO salaries and the administrative nightmare caused by the existence of over 1200 competing insurance company systems.

At the very same time, few Americans are aware that there is a bill in Congress RIGHT NOW that will change all that and actually create a single-payer national health insurance system for all in the United States simply by expanding and improving Medicare, one of the best and most efficient medical managements systems in the world.

6. How much are we really willing to pay for health care - a good policy is easily 20,000
Edited on Sat Aug-08-09 09:10 AM by stray cat
for workers. The burden for some of those expenses will have to fall on workers. If you want something - you can't expect for someone else to be paying for it. To do it right - we need sacrifice from all to cover all.

9. That is far higher than good health care really costs.
My (Cadillac) family policy, at a small business costs $7333 per person. Purchasing roughly that same (excellent) coverage out of the state high risk pool for my college aged daughter would be $14,000. Insurance for that same daughter, with slightly, but not enormously lower coverage, purchased through school is $805 - based on the presumed low risk status of college students.

Yes - we do need to sacrifice to cover all, but if "all" are really covered the premium should be between $14000 (the most expensive average cost) and $805 (the cheapest average cost) - the average of those two is around $7400. That is in the range of actual costs for nations which actually do cover everyone - somewhere between $5000 and $8000 per person, and is pretty much what we pay based on the average health needs in our small (<20) office pool - which includes some higher than average needs.
