This will screw all the right wing Republicans who just tried to screw Crist - what can they say?

It would look bi-partisan, he couldn't be accused of playing party politics or favoring himself in his own primary, it would avoid having to appoint Marco Rubio (r/w hack), Jeb Bush or another uber right winger.

He could argue that Bob was the most experienced person and it would be in the best interest of Florida and Bob in turn could promise to do the job just until the election, coming out of retirement to serve his state and his country just one more time.

I'm serious, everybody right to Charlie.Crist@MyFlorida.com

1. My letter to Charlie...
To the Honorable
Governor of Florida
Charlie Crist,
Tallahassee, FL

It seems that Mel Martinez has played his last card to put you into a bad spot for the Senate race in 2010 by forcing you to either appoint yourself (a bad idea) or appoint another Republican who will likely have to be a Rubio or Bush supporter so that you will be facing an incumbent in your own party next year.

Let me offer you this suggestion:

Bob Graham.

Offer him the job – he’s obviously a qualified, and experienced public servant who would serve Florida’s interests better than someone who’s never played at the Senate level before: as you know he is the former Governor and former US Senator. It seems that he would be unlikely to run again as a Democratic candidate in 2010 given that the whole Democratic Party (which in the interest of full disclosure, I am an active Democratic Party member) is backing Kendrick Meek. Ask him to come back from retirement for 18 more months and serve his country and his state just one more time.

It will look bi-partisan, it will stick it to the uber right wing of your own party that’s out to screw you over and it will give Florida a good experienced Senator to represent it during the next 18 months.

Respectfully,

2. Actually Connie Mack, Sr. is being considered.
There is your experience, Republican, and probably won't run for election.
