UPS is a corporate sponsor of Beck's show -- let's send them letters & emails
I am heartened to hear that several corporate sponsors of the increasingly vile Glenn Beck are pulling their support out from this racist, misogynist, treasonous man's show. However, there is still work to be done. The largest of Beck's corporate sponsors, UPS, still has yet to pull support out from the Glenn Beck show.

I'm pretty sure that if they get enough letters and emails about all the bile that he's spewing on his show, that UPS will pull their support out. The major reason is that UPS is a major, major supporter of workplace diversity and acceptance; in fact, according to the official UPS corporate diversity page, the business chronicle FORTUNE has consistently ranked them as one of the fifty best companies for minorities. A business that prides itself on its diversity and tolerance is one that will likely decide to spend its advertising money when Beck openly states that President Obama is an anti-white racist and that Beck thinks poisoning the Speaker of the House is funny.

If UPS, the biggest corporate sponsor of the Glenn Beck show pulls out, then perhaps other sponsors of his program will see the writing on the wall and stop advertising on this dangerous man's show.

If you want to send an email to UPS to inform them of just what Beck is spewing and to encourage them to stop advertising on Glenn Beck's program, here's the address:

12. UPS's answer - Anybody got it as well?
Dear Nicolas,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our recent advertising on Fox. We value your input and take your comments very seriously.

UPS is very sensitive to the type of television programming with which we associate our messaging. While our advertising schedules are purchased months in advance, we work with our agencies to monitor programming for offensive, inappropriate or controversial content as our schedules run. We do not, however, always have complete visibility into which programs will be promoted in purchased shows.

Occasionally, our advertising ends up near polarizing content. If we find that this becomes a consistent pattern, we will re-evaluate our commitment to particular programs or networks.

Please contact us if you need any additional assistance.

They're hedging and then sending form letters.

Which means, no more using UPS for me.

5. My letter
In recent weeks, Glen Beck has been becoming more and more vituperative toward our President and I feel certain that sooner or later one of his listeners will attempt an assassination. I have been informed that UPS supports Glen Beck in getting his message of hate out to the nation by advertising on his program.

Until I find out that UPS has severed its ties with Mr. Beck’s program, and makes a public announcement to that effect, I will not be using UPS and I will be encouraging my friends to boycott UPS also.

Thank you for your time.

13. My letter
I am an UPS fan. It has its shortcomings, but I ship well over 1,000 packages a year via UPS, and their reliability is impressive. Are they perfect? No. They engage in a few practices that I find irksome (and, frankly questionable). But I don't have to worry about a package sent via UPS. They arrive when they say they will, in the condition they are supposed to arrive. But, having learned that they are a Beck advertiser, well, there are just some things that really quite unforgiveable.

My letter:

Dear UPS,

I just learned that UPS is a sponsor of Glenn Beck's show.

My average UPS outbound domestic shipping bill has been about $8,000. Add to this my international inbound broker fees, various other UPS fees, and my vendor shipping costs, most of which is via UPS, and my annual UPS bill is probably double that. Not an overly large account by UPS standards, but substantial to me and likely to grow as our business continues to grow. As you know, there are options, and FedEx in particular is aggressively courting new customers.

To be fair, I like working with UPS. Even with its generally higher shipping rates, UPS's convenience and reliability are impressive and much appreciated. And in the category of thinking globally and acting locally, I'm on a first-name basis with most of my UPS drivers, and they seem remarkably committed both to UPS as their employer and to supporting my business.

All of that said, I am prepared to shift all of my shipping to FedEx and the USPS if UPS remains a sponsor of this vile show. At least three advertisershave ceased advertising on that show, and I urge UPS to do the same.

I will continue shipping with UPS throughout August. If UPS is still an advertiser as of September 1, I will make every effort to shift the bulk of my shipping to FedEx and USPS. I acknowledge that this will be an inconvenience, but it is important that UPS understand that there are consequences to it business decisions.

At the same time, I would appreciate your comment on the FedEx Brown Bailout campaign. At the very least, it is ironic that UPS would, on the one hand, be advertising on a show that is demonstrably and vehemently opposed to President Obama and, on the other, applying to that same administration for a substantial bailout. Your comments would be appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration.

16. This is what I wrote:
As long as you continue to sponsor the Glen Beck Show, I will not use UPS. He spews nothing but hate and lies and is inciting people to violence. Do you honestly want to be linked with this kind of publicity? My packages will now only be sent via the USPS and Fed Ex.

I received the same form letter as the other posters. In that letter they say,
"Occasionally, our advertising ends up near polarizing content. If we find that this becomes a consistent pattern, we will re-evaluate our commitment to particular programs or networks."

Well, come on fellow DUers, lets show them a consistent pattern of e-mails showing that we are serious about pulling our business from UPS because of their ads on the glen beck show. Hopefully this will hit fox noise in the pocketbook if UPS pulls those ads.

19. my email and their response... clearly my actual email was not read
I have been a VERY loyal customer of your company for a number of
years. I have just learned that UPS is advertising during a
television show hosted by Glenn Beck on the Fox News Channel. Lately,
his statements and behavior have been cause for deep concern.
Examples include his characterization of President Barack Obama as a
racist and also joking about putting poison in House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi's wine glass. Are these consistent with the views of UPS? If
so, my use (and payment for) your services will end immediately. My
sister has sent a similar email to you and received a response from
UPS that contained this sentence: "Occasionally, our advertising ends
up near polarizing content. If we find that this becomes a consistent
pattern, we will re-evaluate our commitment to particular programs or
networks." I can assure you that the content of Mr. Beck's show has
reached not only a consistent, but CONSTANT pattern of polarization.
This is not a case of my disliking a program that promotes a different
viewpoint; rather it is an unwillingness to either directly or
indirectly support behavior that I believe to promote hateful and
disrespectful behavior. If you continue to provide funding for Mr.
Beck's platform, I will no longer provide funding for your services.

The response that came at 3:55 this morning...

21. Our UPS delivery man said they're laying of a lot of people
The last quarter sales for UPS went down by 44%. Their bread and butter seems to be regular people having their purchases shipped. These people have stopped spending money. UPS is consolidating their service centers, laying off people and having the rest do ever larger areas.
