He could have just sat on his yacht counting his money

On August 12th, President Obama will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom
to Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy: Hero of Equal Rights

After losing his brothers in violent ways, being ridiculed all his career as the poster boy for
liberalism as if it was a dirty word, having all the money any human being could ever hope for,
day after day, year after year, he fights for what is right.

His Causes:

* Employment Non-Discrimination Act, protecting LGBTs in the workplace
* Benefits to Domestic Partners of federal employees
* Mathew Shepard Act (which may soon become law (passed House, in committee in June) which will add sexual orientation
..and gender identity to federally recognized hate crimes.
* Ryan White Act - largest federally funded program for people living with HIV/AIDs
* One of the first to come out in favor of same sex couples.
* Voting against Defense of Marriage Act
* Against "Don't Ask Don't Tell"

Cheers to you Ted !! We adore you !!

1. I <3 Ted!
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 06:45 PM by JuniperLea
He could have kicked back in the lap of luxury and just worried about himself. But he didn't. He worked very hard for us for a very long time, and he is very, very deserving of this award.

Much love going out to our man Ted!

3. I have a book called Kennedy in Montana
During the 1960 campaign, the family stopped off in Montana to campaign. The Montanans got Teddy to ride a bronco in the rodeo! He got thrown right away, of course, But what a good sport! How brave!

18. Hi Stephanie ! Wow
that doesn't sound like something a blueblood from MA would do - how cool !

I have my badge from the 1988 convention that I got him to sign - interrupted him drinking in the bar to get it. Seems like a zillion years ago

8. We need a vote on the Senate floor
His history of supporting issues
that are right and that matter
are legend, but frankly if he
can't make it to the Senate floor
to vote at this point, he isn't
much help.

Resign and get replaced with
a Senator who can carry on
what's right for Americans.

10. What a mean thing to say.
I expect his health is such that he will have to resign soon enough as it is. Will that satisfy you?

Jeezus...!

11. Wonder why the founders never thought of voting by proxy? Maybe
because no one would ever show up to vote - just send their assts. Wish there was a special proxy for people who are really sick though.

There is no one who wants to be there more than he probably does. Maybe being a senator and hopefully getting to see health care finally pass is all that is keeping him alive.
