Yeah it can be done, but using the "Hide thread" option becomes harder when you have to basically go through 5 pages hiding pretty much everything you see so you can see what actually interests you. Besides whats the point, by the time you refresh there will 10 more...

If there are at least 15 active topics about the same thing wouldn't it be more considerate to those using dial-up etc., to post your thoughts in those threads rather than start yet another new thread.

Yeah the lines are blurry and GD is "General" discussion, but a bit of common sense in these things doesn't hurt :shrug:. You log in and see the SAME thing in the first 25 threads, surely it makes sense not to start another new thread about it?

Is there a policy on this? Can't find it in the rules.

I am not in any way belittling whatever the issue in question is here-but important points can be made within threads. 50 threads lined up together about ONE thing looks a little :crazy: and obsessive..

I am not interested in policing anyone, being holier than thou etc. I do donate so this is more an issue of comfort/utility. I am annoyed at having missed so many topics in the last few days I would have liked to recommend but I didn't dig through the piles and piles of threads long enough to find them.

Then perhaps the more worthwhile threads could be seen.... Not saying that celebrity news isn't amusing, but it isn't what I look to DU for. And yes - Imus is not just celebrity news - but if he had a category to belong in other than GD then those of us NOT immersed in it could avoid the Imus flap and concentrate on that which is more important..... I still think that a lot of the Imus flap (outrage over his racist tirade as opposed to being outraged by O'Liellly and Man Coulter etc?) is a diversion to get Gonzo and the flop of a surge off the radar....

2. It would be good if the mods would combine some Imus threads, not

allow so many separate ones, but apparently it's their judgement that the rules are not being violated.

I think it's time to start more threads about other important issues.

The Imus issue is important because it's exposed the reality that many WHITE MEN do NOT get why anyone should be offended. It's unbelievable how many are defending him on television.

I think Imus should be fired and that should be the first in a rash of firings until we get rid of all the huge zits on the face of the media. Actually, cancers on the face of the media is a more accurate analogy. He and Rush and Ann and Sean, et al., are responsible for the lack of reasoned discourse in the media and, arguably, in the culture at large. Mass media has been influencing our culture for decades and not in a positive way.

However, I also think people should start threads on other topics, such as Bush's speech today, the Gonzales saga, what's happening with Iraq and Iran and other parts of the world.
