The silver lining in all of this screaming nonsense: Lloyd Doggett is in the spotlight
:loveya::loveya::loveya:
He ranks up there with Kucinich for me. I emailed him trying to get him to go for a higher office.
I even tried to drum up support here.

It is nice that everyone is getting to see the wonderful man he is.

Congressman Doggett is a member of the House Budget Committee and a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over all tax and trade measures, as well as Social Security and Medicare. In this capacity, Congressman Doggett has opposed efforts to privatize Social Security, promoted affordable prescription drug coverage for all seniors, and fought tax loopholes that favor special interests at the expense of ordinary taxpayers.

Congressman Doggett has been honored with the national AARP 2008 Legislative Achievement Award for his leadership on Medicare. For his work protecting the environment, Doggett was honored in 2006 by the Texas League of Conservation Voters with its inaugural Environmental Champion Award. For his efforts on behalf of small business and economic development in his district, Doggett was honored as the 2006 Business Advocate of the Year in government by the Texas Association of Mexican-American Chambers of Commerce. As both a product of and active proponent for public education, Doggett was one of eight alumni honored in a new Hall of Fame, commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Austin Independent School District. The Austin Chronicle honored him in the annual "Best of Austin" poll, naming him "Best Unsung Hero" in 2003, "Best Elected Official" (2004-2007) and in 2008 called him among the "hardest working congressmen on the Hill" who has "served the people of Austin and Central Texas with distinction, courage, and forthrightness for many years." His strong defense of consumer rights earned Doggett a "Public Interest Champion" award in 2003 from the Public Interest Research Group.

Doggett founded and co-chairs the bipartisan House Information Technology Roundtable, a group that promotes dialogue among business, policymakers and the public on important high-tech issues. He has consistently been named as a top deficit hawk for his efforts by several nonpartisan groups including the Concord Coalition and Taxpayers for Common Sense.

And since I think kids are a GREAT reflection on their parents:
Doggett's wife, Libby, is the Executive Director of the Pre-K Now, a nonprofit advocate for voluntary pre-kindergarten for all three and four-year-olds. They have two daughters. Lisa is a physician in Austin who treats the uninsured, and Cathy is a former school teacher who now trains teachers how to be more effective in the classroom. The Doggetts have two grandchildren, Ella and Clara.

5. Lloyd Doggett is one of my favs.
I've known him since his first run for the State Senate in the 1970s. He's one of the best, and he's always been that way.

8. Has always been of my favorites
Things would have been so much different if he had won the Texas U.S. Senate seat to Phil Gramm in 1984. Maybe we could have averted the financial meltdown that Phil Gramm is hugely responsible for.

I would love for him to our Texas Senator. That would make up for a little of the suffering those heartless Republican Senators from Texas have inflicted on Texas and the whole country.

:loveya: Lloyd!
