The case of John Wilkes Boothe shows why we have to take these right-wing nutjobs seriously
I'm reading "Manhunt: the 12-day Search for Lincoln's Killer", and it amazes me how many eerily similar the atmosphere is today. Anti-Lincoln sentiment was very high during this time, yet it only took one person and a few accomplices to put those sentiments into action.
Every day I wonder if one of these crazed "birthers" may decide to take action against what they see as an illegitimate president.
I don't think you can compare the two situations. We were a bit more divided in 1865 then we are today. Something about a civil war, I don't know, but there were some very hard feelings on both sides.
5. You don't think there are hard feelings among the right-wing nutjobs today?
Spend some time over on Free Republic or any Topix forum, and let me know if you don't think that at least one of those basket cases might try something.
7. Comparable to the political division experienced in 1865?
No.
And you're right, it only takes one. So that means trends aren't all that important. You don't need millions of dissatisfied voters for an assassination to take place. Kennedy was fairly popular, didn't help him.
PERMANENT REPUBLIKKKLAN MAJORITY. only Fux Gnews reports the truth. and rush is their god. they are angry and pissed and there isn't the reason we had since 2000.
