More racism from the teabagging terrorists......

Obama 'Joker' posters with a racist influence are appearing on the streets

Someone is taking far too much liberty with Photoshop. According to two different blogs the Obama "Joker" poster is turning up on the streets around Los Angeles. A picture of the poster can bee seen on the right. Unfortunately, in looking at the comments of these blogs the poster is actually praised rather than condemned. It seems political discourse has reached a new low. In fact, it is no longer discourse but simply racist images with one word posted on the streets.

The poster is an obvious inverse of the "blackfacing" of actors during the Jim Crow era. The major difference of course being in this poster President Obama is "whitefaced" with Joker makeup. Conservatives can tell me all day this is not racial but in all honesty can we really say the poster does not play on some emotions? In addition, the poster plays on the conspiracy theories advocated by commentators like Glenn Beck that Obama is somehow trying to takeover the country.

The appearance of the poster along with the growth of the Birther movement are discouraging signs for our democracy. There seems to be a very disgruntled minority of citizens who simply can not accept the legitimacy of Obama election. Rather than oppose the President using civility and the ballot box these groups are instead trying to fight using smear campaigns and outright lies.

1. That doesn't look racist to me.
It's a play on the Joker from Batman. There's plenty of real racist pics of Obama without having to invent them.

2. It is so disheartening
I have family members sending me this kind of shit. I'm calling them on it with a nice Reply to All, asking them if they went to church this week and what would Jesus think about them spreading hate.

We all have to stand up to it. Period.

6. it is not whiteface
it is a play off the Joker right down to the scars on the sides of the mouth.

If The Dark Knight hadn't come out yet, this poster wouldn't look like this at all.

It isn't racist. It's juvenile, moronic, silly, stupid, and in some ways incomprehensible (what socialism equals anarchy? Obama wants to kill people for pleasure?). But it isn't racist.

7. Don't know you that it's not the
intent that matters, but the interpretation? Somebody who "knows"--omniscient, that one--the intent of the poster's mystery creator and no-less mystery disseminators has so decreed it, and to challenge that person's authority and omniscience is, itself, racist.

Well, I say it's only the interpretation that matters, but that's not, strictly speaking, true. There are exceptions, when it's only the intent, not the interpretation, that matters. Depends entirely upon who the interpreter and intender are.
