I mean, during the Cold War, the Russians made such
good bad guys. Now, in modern/contemporary movies what group can supply a steady stream of antagonists? It's culturally insensitive to always make the bad guys Muslim. Home-bred American terrorists? Yeah, but it's not as fun when the bad guy is too much like the good guy. Besides, if we use home-grown right wing types, too much of the audience might have sympathy for the antagonist and see him as an anti-hero instead.
