You know what REALLY pisses me off about TV 'discussions'?
 alert....
A COMPLETE LACK OF ELEMENTARY COURTESY

 They're not 'discussions', they're friggin' shoutfests! :nuke:
You can't get a word in sledgewise unless you interrupt and shout down the person with whom you're SUPPOSEDLY having a rational discussion or debate.

Sounds like my neighbors down the street at 2:15 Saturday morning when they come home drunk and pissed off about something.

LET...THE SCREAMFEST...BEGIN!:banghead:

Or rather, please don't...

These were not the manners I was taught, and I don't think the shouting heads on TV were taught this way either. Their parents must be so proud...:eyes: NOT!
Oh, certainly, they've acheived a highly visible, highly paid position in life, but they display no courtesy, no respect for the people with whom they are dealing.

Just for the record, fawning, bootlicking, fellatious soft-ball (no pun intended there) questions to those with whom they agree (or who have enough clout to make their jobs go bye-bye) is neither 'respect' or 'courtesy'.

I don't want to listen to people shouting at each other on TV; no matter how 'elevated' the issue.
When the noise level goes up, I can't hear what they're saying. All I hear is NOISE...unfriendly, hostile noise, and I thank whatever gods still remain I can turn this noise OFF, walk away and leave them to it.

I don't want to listen to people shouting at each other ANYWHERE unless it's an emergency...or the background noise is so great that shouting is the only way to be heard.
At a comfortable pre-arranged place, arranged especially for discussion- where background sound levels are monitored to a fare-thee-well, neither of these situations apply.

ALL OF YOU...STFU WHILE THE OTHER PERSON IS TALKING! THIS GOES BOTH WAYS!

Thanks...I feel better now.

1. All that yelling and talking over each other is why you'll never find my TV tuned to CNN, FOX, ABC,
MSNBC,CBS, CNBC, or NBC or any of the other 'news' stations.

and probably should have, but you saved me the effort.

And you did so eloquently and with a great deal of passion.

Thank you.

3. It would also help if

they did their homework! When you have no facts at your disposal, you're left with having to yell.

TV "discussions" have been spiraling downward for several years now. There is generally nothing useful to be gleaned from this. God help us.

4. what I dislike is they think they are delivering news
instead of just delivering opinion often as unsubstantiated fact. So often the speaker is not an expert in the field they are delivering a lecture on. Even worse when an expert is on they are placed 1 on 1 against a total amateur on the subject. The result is to lend legitimacy to total fantasy. I don't mind a heat argument as long as what is being argued has substance and the two arguing actual know what they are talking about and use actual facts to make their arguments. On TV news that simply happens far to infrequently.

9. I like Charlie, but he often interrupts the train of thought of the speaker and leaves me
wanting to tell him to zip it.

7. It's intentional/strategic: the "smackdown" style appeals to haters, sports mentality, dumbs it down
...limits discussion, limits time needed to explain complex details (concision), and subsequently dumbs down the mainstream discourse so that the most belligerent, cocksure people can smugly 'high five' one another as they name-call those who don't abide fabricated, consensus "reality."

8. Thats why I love Bill Moyers
I come away from his show knowing what I just watched not wondering what the hell just happened. KO is like that, so is Rachel but that is about it for who I watch.
