FYI: FactCheck.Org on Obama's Birth Certificate
http://www.factcheck.org:80/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

In June 2008, the Obama campaign released a digitally scanned image of his birth certificate to quell speculative charges that he might not be a natural-born citizen. But the image prompted more blog-based skepticism about the document's authenticity. And recently, author Jerome Corsi, whose book attacks Obama, said in a TV interview that the birth certificate the campaign has is "fake."

We beg to differ. FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as "supporting documents" to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.

Update, Nov. 1: The director of Hawaii’s Department of Health confirmed Oct. 31 that Obama was born in Honolulu.

Analysis
Update Nov. 1: The Associated Press quoted Chiyome Fukino as saying that both she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.

2. even if that were true....
it proves that the "big scheme" is far too big for anyone including Lou Dobbs to do anything about it so they should just give up.

3. The thing is....
Facts do not matter to the kind of person who would engage in the type of idiocy that the "birthers" are engaged in. They are driven not by their respect for the law and the constitution. They are driven by fear of a changing paradigm in society. They are afraid of the end of the dominance of the White Male perspective. That fear is the same fear that drives neo-Nazi's and KKK members to react irrationally. No amount of logic or fact checking is going to break the craziness. We just have to be vigilant that these idiots don't do anything violent and continue to confront those like Dobbs who give the idiots the illusion of reason.

4. You are right, even if they accepted the birth certificate
as proof is Obama being born in Hawaii, they now have another claim. The 'lawyer' has announced that to be a legitimate candidate for the presidency, Obama would have to prove that BOTH of his parents were citizens of the US at the time of his birth. I don't know where they came up with this, but I'm sure by now hundreds of them are convinced. And if that gets shot down, they'll find another reason.

Which is why, no one should even try to reason with them. Irrational people can never be reasoned with. Now that there is no question of his legitimacy, as if there ever was, anyone promoting the ideas these people are promoting, ie, the military refusing to serve and/or revolution to overturn the election, should be treated as traitors.

8. again, I disagree. let the wingnuts stand up and make a fool of themselves.
Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 01:24 PM by garybeck
this is a great way to expose them for who they are. let them all stand and be counted. when all is said and done, more people will realize what morans they are than will believe them., because the facts are on our side. we have to do our part, though, and expose the facts. the MSM apparantly is not helping us on this front. But if we can expose the facts, we can expose the MSM, and I think this issue could be a turning point. The more any MSM channel allows itself to discuss this topic with legitimacy, the deeper hole they are digging for themselves. Let them dig deeper! Eventually they are going to have to apologize or lose credibility with their viewers. Both are good things.

10. That's how people felt about the Swift Boat Veterans also
And about radical rightwing talk-show hosts also. Democrats have far too much faith in the ability of the American people to judge who is and who is not a complete lunatic. I will never forget that, even allowing for cheating in the election, millions of Americans voted for Bush a second time.

And who in their right mind would ever have thought that anyone would take Rush Limbaugh, BOR, Hannity, Glenn Beck, G.Gordon Liddy, Savage/Weiner, Ann Coulter et al seriously? So, Dems had the attitude that they would let them spout their lies and the American people would realize what lunatics they were. That attitude got us years of investigations into Clinton's private 'affairs', crippling a Democratic president and losing the majority they held in Congress. And that led to eight years of the worst administration ever, while the Dems still thought that fighting fire with far more fire, was not the right thing to do, after all, what would the lunatic fringe say about them?

This is how the right operates. And as always, Dems believe they are above reaching into the gutter and dragging them kicking and screaming into the sunlight, letting them know that if they want a fight, they are going to get one, and THEN when they snivelling and whining like the cowards they are, MAYBE the useless media will stop enabling them fearing the reaction of the LEFT for a change.

What happened to Clinton was an attempted coup d'etat intended to overthrow an election. All those involved in the plotting and planning should have been indicted at least to send a message that once an election is over, you have to suck it up and wait for the next one. You don't get to attempt to overthrow a duly elected president ....

Sorry, I've been waiting patiently to see at least one victory for our side against these forces of evil, or at least a real fight, for eight years now, and all I see is compromise on our part. Bullies only understand one thing, they mis-interpret all other ways of dealing with them as weakness. This country cannot afford another Swift Boat Veterans scenario, this time against a sitting president.

So, I guess we'll have to disagree that the American people will see these lunatics for what they are. I have zero faith in that happening unless they are relentlessly attacked and exposed for what they are. And prosecuted where it is warranted.

6. I disagree
facts can push these guys further into the fringes. they can be ostracized and called "tin foil hatters" .... "oh he's one of those crazy wingnuts that actually believes Obama's birth certificate was forged"

I believe with enough fact checking, this could topple Lou Dobbs' credibility, if not CNN's. It's a different world now with the internet... I don't think you can compare to the 1930s.

if people are still saying there is no raised seal on the certificate, and in fact there is, the more people who learn the facts, the further into a corner these nuts are going to be pushed.

Personally I think this is a great issue to expose. Let them keep saying it's a fake! Give them a microphone! Expose what rightwing nutcases they all are, with pure simple facts. This will further drive people away from the republican party.
