Fox "News" Anchor throws "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM"-style tantrum in parking garage

Martha MacCallum Demands Respect

http://cityfile.com/dailyfile/6622

Martha MacCallum may look like just another cutesy blonde anchor on Fox News. But it seems she has a darker side, too. A tipster tells us MacCallum threw quite the tantrum yesterday at a parking garage around the corner from the studios of Fox News when she turned up with her daughter in tow and her BMW wasn't waiting for her with the keys in the ignition. The outrage!

Infuriated that someone of her importance wasn't being treated with the the respect normally given to a B-list cable news anchors, our tipster heard her shout at the attendant, "Do you know who I am? Do you have any clue? I'm on Fox News!"

MacCallum dressed down the garage employee for a several more minutes as her teenage daughter—who looked a bit nonplussed about the meltdown—stood by. Eventually, she gave up on her war on inconsiderate parking attendants, jumped into the BMW SUV, and screeched off—leaving the garage personnel looking a bit confused.

Maybe the parking attendants prefer to get their news from CNN?

18. That was the "Sisterhood of Blond Receptionists" on WKRP
Jennifer Marlowe of WKRP was a member, "I am a receptionist. Receptionists receive. They offer comfort, provide support, answer a few telephone calls. But they do not type, unless it's for a very good cause.... If you saw our minimum salary, you'd have a heart attack and die."

48. Ohhhhh -
Thank you for that brilliant reminder of how wonderful TV comedy can be.

I miss that show, I miss those characters.

Johnny Fever. Venus Flytrap.

Jennifer.

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly." The signature line to what I think is still the funniest scene in television history.

Every Sunday night, WGN runs an hour of this show, and I just melt.

Thanks for the grand remembrance...........................

52. Oh, man, Herb and Les -
they were a vision, weren't they?

Polyester Paradise whenever Herb showed up, and Les, my god, that character was perfect.

I can't remember The Big Guy's mother's name - the actress who played her - but I remember when she delivered one of my favorite lines anywhere ever, talking to her son:

"The least you could do is try to act normal."

Smart show. Just a damn smart show, and I miss it.

I'm watching a "Boston Legal" rerun right now - another smart show gone................................

58. Two different actresses played Mrs. Carlson
The great Sylvia Sydney played her in the pilot episode, but when they brought the character back in for more appearances, Carol Bruce, another wonderful Broadway actress, picked up the role. Carol Bruce returned as 'Mama' Carlson for the return of the series years later.

'Mama' Carlson got some great lines!

64. Thank you -
My mind kept kicking up "Sylvia Sydney," but it didn't seem right.

So there was another actress! Ah, that explains it. That role screamed "Sylvia Sydney," didn't it?

Thanks for the clarification. Always wonderful to find a fan....................

68. I was a fan of Sylvia Sydney's because of her needlepoint book
Which I still have and still refer to. So it was a thrill when I got to see her in the pilot for WKRP, and that was part of the reason I was invested in the show from the start. Aside from the fact that it was brilliant TV, of course.

Then when they brought back 'Mama' Carlson for later episodes, I kept wondering if I mis-remembered the original. It was years later, when the internet really got going, that I finally could research and find out that they had switched actresses. I suspect that Sylvia Sydney was willing to do a 'cameo' for the pilot but was not interested in a recurring television role. She far too many opportunities for that!

Yep, been a fan since the beginning!

53. Did you know this?
I just looked up "WKRP" on wikipedia, and found this - were you aware of it? I wasn't:

As a running gag, Nessman wears a bandage in a different spot each episode. It is suggested that these bandages are due to repeated attacks by Phil, Nessman's monstrous dog (who is never seen but is heard growling offstage in another room in Nessman's apartment). In fact, the bandages are a running in-joke. During the filming of the pilot episode, Richard Sanders bumped his head on a studio light and had to wear a bandage to cover the cut. From then on, Sanders decided, Les Nessman would always wear a bandage. (Although Les Nessman acts and sounds like a throwback to the 1950s and Johnny acts like a 1960s hippie, Sanders and Hesseman are actually the same age—both were born in 1940.)

57. Yes - I had read that
And I remember noticing the bandaids during the shows' original run. As someone who is accident prone myself, I identified with Les and his bandaids.

The cool thing about WKRP is that it had such interesting "back stories" that were not really investigated but that enriched the feel of the show.

65. Indeed -
it was smart, and it didn't pander to the lowest common denominator.

Some of Dr. Fever's and Flytrap's lines were so out there, and they just floated on up, without further comment, while I died laughing. They got away with murder. Much like "Rocky, The Flying Squirrel."

Both those actors did all right as character actors for the rest of their careers - Howard Hessman was in a "House" episode a couple of years ago, and he was excellent - but they never, at least to my thinking, exceeded what they did on "WKRP." True star turns.

And Gary Sandy just disappeared, which still amazes me....................................

67. Gary Sandy did some minor TV roles, but mostly went back to live theater
According to his IMDB.com bio:

"Despite a slimness of offers, Gary maintained for a time as a TV guest star, then reverted back to his first love -- the theatre. Musical roles have since ranged from the slick and preening (The Pirate King in Broadway's "The Pirates of Penzance" and Billy Flynn in "Chicago") to playing the down-home charmer (Harold Hill in "The Music Man" and Will Rogers in "Will Rogers Follies"). During this time Gary also appeared in a few musical misfires based on critically successful plays. "Sheba", the musical adaptation of Come Back, Little Sheba, and "Windy City" based on The Front Page, went nowhere. In 2004, he even opened in a Texas musical version of Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor. Also mixed in have been straight comedy and drama, essaying roles in classic Tennessee Williams and Eugene O'Neill. Seen here and there on camera, including the horror film Mommy's Day (1997) with grown-up demonic "Bad Seed" Patty McCormack, Gary is the perfect example of an actor willing to persevere through good times and bad, closely moving in on his fourth decade of performing."
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0762466/bio

There is a more complete bio at his web site: http://www.garysandy.com/index.html

I could really see him as Harold Hill - he would certainly be better than Matthew Broderick, who I saw recently on Bravo in a new film version. While Broderick is competent, he just does not come across as the pushy flamboyant figure Harold Hill should be. Sandy could do that, I am sure!

Thank so much!

Yep, he's DEFINITELY Harold Hill - I do not approve of Broderick in that role, not at all - remember Robert Preston? He defined Harold Hill, I think.

Sandy's a real pro. An actor's actor. Well done, Gary.

Thank you again.........................

71. I luve my broadband connection ;D And right now I have loads of spare time
So I get to hunt up stuff like this.

When I read about actors like him that I liked on TV, I wish I were more willing to visit large cities to see real live theater. We get some traveling shows here, but the one venue is horrifically bad - the seating is so steep I get vertigo sitting down. And when my hubby did the first SciFi Con here, the administrators of the facility were just plain obnoxious, so I refuse to spend money there.

Oh well, maybe someday we'll get a real theater and good shows!

Remind the individual that there are two groups of people out there.

9. Have you seen how those Fox female anchors act?
No one acts like that in real life. Those women are told to read the teleprompter like seductive
temptresses for the raging sexists who watch Fox News. Their lips are all botoxed and their
bleach-blonde hair is piled a mile high on their heads.

These women look like strippers.

You'd have to be psychotic to do that job.

...and my overall impression of the women of Fox is that they represent "someone else's idea of an "attractive" woman.

There's a generic look, as you say...bleached hair piled sky-high...but beneath the "cute" factor there is an icy hardness, a single-minded determination to follow Rupert's orders...that turns my stomach.

How many female Fox "news anchors" do I find "attractive?"

None of them.

Maybe the guy will put a dead, smelly rat in her car next time.

Too bad the parking attendant wasn't exactly like the smelly attendant from that Seinfeld episode. http://www.tbs.com/stories/story/0,,69117,00.html

72. I think that a TNT Sports talking head just did this...
(Bill Webber?)Checking in to a motel in NH, covering the NASCAR race. Big mess - they pulled his ticket on the spot, and sent his ass home. pulled from the coverage for ther rest of their races, too.

The rest of the team all moved up a notch, and got good reviews for doing so - ba-bye, asswipe!
