I have never listened to Imus; won't even know where to find him. But then, I do not listen to talk radio. Any talk radio. I think that I first heard of him when he was bashing Bill Clinton, perhaps during the Monica saga.
Most the majority of listeners to talk radio are white men who hate women and minority, considering them the fault for their failure in achieving fame and fortune as befitted their birth right.
:sarcasm: (in case anyone takes the last words at face value)
Which is why liberal talk radio has never had a chance against the like of Limpback and Oralley and the rest of them. Talk radio feeds on anger aimed at specific groups. The feminazis, Hillary (even before she entered the race).
I have never listened to Jackson or to Sharpton, either; I don't even know whether they can be heard outside NYC.
But Sharpton and Jackson have made their careers playing the race cards. I have to wonder whether they could survived had they not provided the place for Imus and Richards to appear and to apologize.
Last, normally on DU there would be many posts crying that the Imus thing - now playing constantly on all the media outlet - is a conspiracy by the freepers to divert our attention from the real issues.
All of them: Imus, Sharpton, Jackson, Limpback, Oralley - need attention to survive. The more controversy they create, the fatter their paychecks. They have their followers who will continue to follow them no matter what, will even increase their support when they are attacked.
I am not African American and will never feel the pain and the humiliation that these comments inflict. But the best reaction to people in the lime light is to turn off the lights.
Can we now move on? The local story was about new groups being shipped to Iraq (or, perhaps Afghanistan, does it matter?) And I could not help thinking that this is like giving them a death sentence and all we can do is helplessly watch.
