still looking for someone willing to work for food...
I thought the third post would be the charm: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=213&topic_id=5813&mesg_id=5813
being in the marketplace forum and all, but I have only gotten two responses (and have packaged up seeds for them). I have more seeds and can afford the postage. I took some to the local farmers market yesterday, but was only able to be there the last hour. Anyhow, if you can grow something in a garden, cold frame, window box, or just a pot on the balcony or deck I can send you some seed of great lettuce and greens for the winter garden.
My way of saying "Thank You" to DU and the community here.

3. My seeds and garden are set for the season so far, but that's a good idea.
Here in Michigan, we're about a month late on our growing season this year, so I'm not sure what I'll ultimately get from the garden. I was finishing putting up some apple mint today for tea, and I've got to pick green beans again today for more freezer beans.

4. Post your offer on this thread linked.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6150578

There are posters on that thread who claim to care about things like growing their own food. It's probably not true, but give it a try.

8. OK, did that.
General Discussion must be the 'alive' space here at DU. FIVE new requests (after only two from the three earlier posts).
Here to help you feed yourself,

5. The seeds I have. (Looks like link back to earlier posts failed...)
Arugula, a spicy green like cress. For salad or stir-fry.
Red Giant Mustard, aka Chinese Mustard. Burgundy top with green underside of leaf.
Red Spot Lettuce, a Romaine type, Heirloom Seed I have saved and grown for years.
Green Lettuce, This may be Black Seeded Simpson, not sure, but a great leaf lettuce.
Curly Burgundy Lettuce, First year for me, quite colorful. Leaf lettuce.
Mizuna, another salad or stir-fry green. A mustard.
Turnip type greens, Something that comes up year after year in my garden.
Cilantro/Coriander, Cilantro is the parsley like greens, Coriander are the seeds as spice.
Red Kale, or Russian Curly leaf Kale,

Let me know if you just want a few things or a little of everything, when you send your address. These could be grown in pots and brought into a sunny window if you live in a heavy frost area.

6. Maybe you should try a different subject line?
May I suggest "I have free vegetable seeds to share"? You might get a better response when your thread does not appear, at first glance, to be about bashing the homeless.

9. Hi Dave, (and Scout). I did that in the first two posts, which got NO REPLIES
So I thought I might need a hook to catch the attention of the masses. I think maybe it is just posting where a lot of folks get to view the post.
Or it may just be my failed attempt at "Humor"?

An Hey, Thanks for keeping an eye on me.

12. Thanks folks, for making this hit the greatest page.
My first post to get there I think. But I'm sure it will be seen by more folks, and I have only heard from 8 people so far. I can have the packages in the mail Wednesday.
Happy Gardening,
ADW

13. We are very careful about our seed stock.
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 05:23 PM by bvar22
We prefer localized Heirlooms.
I'm a bit mistrustful of anyone offering free seeds over the Internet, but thats just me.
So, Thanks, but we already have our seeds.

15. I commend you for both growing your own food and trying to help others.
I have a garden. It's a mess right now because we're having a drought and we're water rationing.

Need any squash?

If more people would grow their own, we wouldn't need all those trucks that move organic foods to overpriced places like Whole Foods and others such outlets. I'm amazed at how many people will preach the gospel of eating organic, but absolutely refuse to stop texting long enough to actually grow their own veggies.

Home grown tomatoes, corn, beans and peanuts rule!! If people want to do more than TALK about making significant changes to help the planet, growing a garden is step one.

18. I have never grown Peanuts, though loved them "Boiled" which I found one
year when traveling to Florida. Sweet Potatoes have been my most exotic. (Well, I have gotten a Macadamia Nut to sprout, three actually, but only one is still alive after several winters. Sure a slow grower, I don't think it likes the dry Calif. summer. And the guy hired to weedeat almost girdled the poor thing one year too.)

When getting everyones envelopes together I missed putting the mizuna in 4 of them, Sorry about that, the packages slid out of sight as I was preparing things and I didn't notice.

I had a great squash season last year, saved seed, and this year I was busy with a class in Spring and didn't keep things watered good. Not the bounty I had before, and lots of blooms but not much set. I would help the bees last year, maybe I need to be fussin' with the flowers again this year.

22. 12 packages going out today,
This post may be hard to find now, but I still have more seed. We don't go to town for another week, but I could still send some seed to willing gardners who would like to give them a try.

Best wishes everyone, taking care of my 'babies',
ADW
