Or are those seats very safe Democratic districts?

Who would run to replace them?

Who would run as a Republican?

Are we gonna pick up enough other seats to make it a moot point?

1. Well they both have Democratic Governors.
Edited on Tue Apr-10-07 07:22 AM by MrSlayer
So if they have to vacate their seats, the Governors of their respective states will appoint their replacements to finish out the terms. Senators are elected statewide, districts have no bearing. New York and Illinois are both Blue right now, so the seats would be given to Democrats. Whether or not the people appointed could retain their seats in 2012 is another question.

Edit: expanded.

3. I don't see that ticket working at all because the point of running is to get elected.
Besides, I don't see Clinton going for second place on the ticket.

9. I'm not advocating the ticket, I'm just wondering what would happen if they ended up on the same tic
I hope Hillary remains in the Senate for a very long time, personally.

4. Although I prefer your order,
I think it would be Clinton/Obama. But I hope she's not on the ticket at all. Edwards/Obama is my choice at this point in time. (However, if Gore gets in he's my guy. Don't care who's his veep, although Obama would be a great choice.)

5. Agree.
Clinton on the Democratic ticket in any position is a non-winner.

As the joke goes ... there is only one candidate for the Republicans that can keep the White House for them: Hillary Clinton.

I know it makes some folks here mad, but I talk to many liberals and progrssives and peace activists everyday -- and Hillary is the line that they just will not cross.

Actually, after Gore, the talk I hear is that Edwards is sparking interest again.

10. I don't see how
The majority of Democratic seats are safe, while the Republicans have to play defense and can't really afford any huge offensive. Democrats on the other hand can play a very big offensive.

13. Doubt it
There are, what, 21 Republican and only 12 Dems up for re-election?

And here in the frozen north, Al Franken is gunning for Norm "stage boot" Coleman hard.
